I was at Lavalle for the OT quarterfinal loss!

and the game immediately following- just months later against #1 UVa, another heartbreaker.  i think we lost 11-10.

and then maybe 2018 we lost 15-14.  UVa wasnt as good that year.

The Seawolves beat Rutgers to start 2025, and a series of close losses could have gone another way. Consider how much the seven-day stretch from March 15-22 could have turned their season: They lost 13-12 to Hofstra and Towson with a combined three overtimes. They lost 15-14 to Drexel two weeks later. The cause for optimism is simply how young they were and how much a year of those close games forges a team; sometimes you need to learn experience losing close to learn to win close.

Stony Brook Adds Mike Daly to Coaching Staff

Stony Brook added a few championships to its coaching staff.

Anthony Gilardi finalized his 2026 staff, adding Mike Daly as defensive coordinator. Daly led Tufts to three NCAA championships (2010, ’14, ’15) before taking over at Brown for eight seasons. Daly most recently served as the Director of Player Development at Maryland.

Daly replaces JP Brazel, who had been with the Seawolves since 2019 and is a fixture of Long Island coaching.

Mike Chanenchuk is now the associate head coach and has led the offense since 2019. Quintin Germain (assistant coach) and Joe Fallon (Director of Player Development) fill out the staff for the Seawolves, who start their season Feb. 6 at Sacred Heart after a pair of scrimmages in the coming weeks.

Stony Brook was selected to finish fifth in the 2026 CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Seawolves open the regular season on the road at Sacred Heart on Friday, February 6. Stony Brook hosts Rutgers on February 14 to begin a seven-game home slate.
