I have a feeling its going to be a Hofstra - Monmouth Final. Hofstra has a good shot at winning it all

yeah but wasnt that just riding the wave of someone else's success?

wil Ford has piled up winning seasons, i think that means little.  what we need is hot in march.  see 2024 and 2016.

with that said- the game has chnaged much since then.  and i think Ford has done a pretty good job of adjusting to the landscape- bringing in the free agents- Maidoh and Fitz come to mind.

It's hard to imagine that in the Boals years we would average 3000 regularly during conference season and get those numbers for schools like Lowell, Hartford, Maine, etc. I've noticed how emptier the arena looks on broadcasts now even during the marquee games.

I would move on from Geno tomorrow if I could. From my obstructed-view seat, I just think we could use some new energy. It's a solid mid-major job. He hasn't been horrible – four winning records in the six full seasons, two truly truly horrific years and a crummy COVID season. I just think it's run its course and would love to see what somebody else could do.

It's hard though. The portal giveth and taketh away, but more than anything, it has to make the job so much more difficult. And the team harder to follow. And with the students, they could not be more indifferent. The student section was an abomination yet again, even when the team was surging. Even though it was on a Thursday night in January, we had fewer than 1900 fans there for the Hofstra game, which has to be the lowest in series history.

We've done the chicken and egg thing before. Winning brings fans, money brings winning, but if fans bring money – such as a whale who meaningfully backs the program – SBU just doesn't have those people coming through campus. They'd rather fund something groundbreaking across the street, and I think that's outstanding too.

I do give the gameday team credit – they took a step forward this year. And I credit Goldsmith too – she's been at these games talking up how they need to ramp things up. She's been far more present and genuine than McInnis. So that's a start.

Now, Towson is up 30 on Charleston... this was wide open for us to take! Wide open!!!

You can do all the analysis you want but it comes down to the realization that the men’s basketball program has reached the upper limit of its potential under Geno. Only a coaching change will change the outcome going forward.

Geno needs to go, but considering that SB was projected to finish 11th in the CAA and they managed to finish 8th, he and the AD are probably taking victory laps.

Campbell destroys UNCW 85-70. Like we all knew, they were vulnerable and it could have been us. That makes it feel even worse, frankly. I will agree to admitting that I didn't want to associate with Campbell in our conference when they joined either.

If told ahead of time, guess what...Shosh, Pratt, and Brown combined will have a monster game and SBU will pin 89 on the scoreboard we'd probably all sign up for that and think, great, on to the next round.

But then if told...however SBU will get nothing from anyone else, we'd probably wonder, Uh oh, what do you mean by "nothing"...

You're right Chairman in pointing out a huge improvement in most of the areas you mention. However the team had what turned out to be a fatal flaw--little along the front line, and the best guy in that position sort of checked out for the final few games.

As weak as the team was last year I'd argue that SBU's front line was no better this year, and perhaps worse in the end. Last year they had a pretty consistent Wight and Snoddy, who both seemed to play a bit beyond their size. This year, Goods and a few other guys chipped in without consistency. Compare rebound stats from last year to this year and the picture is about the same. And, again, when you then have Goods step away there was an especially big problem.

I'd say Campbell was just simply a better and more well-rounded team. And PS, as I'm about to hit "post" I see Campbell up by one over UNCW early in the second half.

Finally, is the university interested in taking SERIOUS steps to make SBU men's basketball better? 30+ years now watching the program and I can't say I've seen any strong evidence to suggest this.

Update: and with the Camels dispatching UNCW with another offensive blast, I'll admit to thinking a little differently about the SBU loss now. Maybe SBU was Campbell two years ago, and that's about the best we can expect.
