10-9 CoC early.  they score quick.

were trying to run... not sure that's what we want but it's happening!

while i agree with sentiment- can this actually benefit us?

look at our history.  won on a lot in the reg season, lost a lot in the tournament.  try something different, use our depth.

i saw sunday put a high screen on that i thought was a moving pick.  next time, called for it.  not sure how much trouble he caused, shooting 0/1 with 3 boards.

anyway- a good pregame summary in one post:

Quote
- They have OT wins over both Drexel and UNCW
- Beat Delaware by 23 last week
- Took Towson to OT on the road
- Had a 15 pt 1st half lead on Charleston
- And of course the 2 very close games vs us

and a bad one after the loss:

The team had a great year, but Stony Brook sucks, and they were playing their 3rd game in 3 nights. There were no adjustments from us in the 2nd half. But credit to them, they outplayed and outcoached us by a wide margin tonight.

i like bully ball- maidoh is having his way in the paint with baby hooks and fitz is clutch at the stripe.

and how is frankie 6'9", wasnt he 6'7" at SB?

did we have two consecutive games where arguably the opposing star player gets hurt, comes back, and makes a play, and we pull the upset?

if we pull this off- and i think we will- i cant see it being by more than a few points.

wearing red today, GO SB

Stony Brook tops Hofstra with late surge to reach CAA championship game

This would have been right at home in playgrounds from Farmingdale to Farmingville.

For 40 minutes, at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington on Monday night, Stony Brook and Hofstra were engaged in a Long Island street fight. The Seawolves and Pride traded body blows, heavy and hard. Both sides giving as good as they got.

And in the end, it was Stony Brook, in its second year as a CAA member school, landing one more punch.

The seventh-seeded Seawolves outlasted third-seed Hofstra, 63-59, in the CAA men’s basketball semifinals. As a result, Stony Brook will meet top-seeded Charleston in Tuesday’s championship game. The Cougars topped fifth-seed Towson, 61-56, in the day’s first semifinal game.

Tyler Stephenson-Moore led Stony Brook (20-14) with 23 points. Chris Maidoh added 13. Aaron Clarke chipped in with 12.

Tyler Thomas led Hofstra (20-13) with 32 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Jaquan Carlos had 13 points and six assists.

Entering the game, Hofstra was 28-6 against Stony Brook all-time, including four straight wins and nine wins in the previous 10 matchups. The teams played twice in the regular season, with Hofstra winning both games. The Pride took an 80-74 decision at Island Federal Credit Union Arena on Jan. 22. On Feb. 1, at the Mack Sports and Entertainment Complex, Tyler Thomas’ baseline 17-foot jumper with four-tenths of a second remaining allowed Hofstra to escape with a 72-71 win.

Thirty-nine days and 256 miles later, Hofstra and Stony Brook picked up right where they left off.

At halftime, Stony Brook led 32-30. Stephenson-Moore scored 14 points and shot 4-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, to spark the Seawolves.

The gritty nature of the game continued in the second half. Stony Brook shot 2-for-7 from the field in the first 6 1/2 minutes, which was slightly better than Hofstra’s 2-for-9 clip. And it seemed as if whistles were blown on every possession.

Darlinstone Dubar’s three from beyond the arc gave Hofstra its first lead since midway through the first half, 44-41. Clarke came right back and knock down a three of his own to tie the game.

Thomas converted a layup to put Hofstra ahead 46-44 with 10:54 remaining.

Neither team scored for the next four minutes until Dean Noll knocked down two free throws to knot the game at 46.

The Pride went ahead 49-46 on Silas Sunday’s free throw and Carlos’ layup but Stephenson-Moore brought the Seawolves to within one with two free throws.

After Thomas’ floater allowed Hofstra to stretch the lead back up to three, Stephenson-Moore tied the game 51-51 with a three in front of the Seawolves’ bench.

Both teams did not score over a span of two minutes and five seconds until Maidoh converted a spinning layup. On the next possession, Maidoh blocked Thomas’ layup attempt, which led to Stephenson-Moore’s layup on the other end that extended the Seawolves’ lead to 55-51 with 1:57 left.

Stony Brook pushed the advantage to 58-51 after Noll knocked down a three with 57 seconds left. Clarke made 3 of 4 free throws to stretch the Seawolves’ lead to 61-51.

In the final half minute, Thomas drilled a three and made two free throws to cut the deficit to 61-56, but Clarke and Keenan Fitzmorris knocked down free throws to put the game out of reach.

TSM doesnt come off the floor tonight, grabs 9 boards.  and the thing that impresses me most- rebound distribution- everyone with significant minutes had a few.  same largely for assists.  played like a team tonight.  lets get healthy and beat CoC.

this was one of those nights where both teams seemingly chucked the ball up at times, and it just went in.  the intensity was just amazing.

this is maybe one of the best games ive seen, ever, in any sport. GO SB

41
this game is shaping up to be a 5 underwear special.

42
thomas hit a three, on the way down, turned an ankle.  he's in pain.  you hate to see that no matter the circumstance.

43
boards 24-12, great job guys.  fantastic.  an absolutely throttling of an athletic team.  especially when you consider so many are playing injured, these guys are warriors. (offensive boards- 8-1)

i have to wonder how long the intensity can stay at this level- for either team!

built a 2 point lead- let's keep building and pound the dutch.

44
maidoh is making moves in the paint i'm not sure ive seen before- all in the last 24 hours.

what's our plan for thomas- lock him with TSM, are we already doing that, double team, slide early, it doesnt matter, etc.?

14-13 SB.

the first ten minutes were bananas, pace-wise.  hof missed a few bunnies both at the rim and short-range jumpers.  feels like we are settling for perimeter shots instead of passing the ball.

ive seen hof a bunch of times and they FAST and athletic.  this has the intensity of an ACC game.  good showing on CBS, nice job boys.
