No Hjertaas again tonite. That’s now 3 games and it’s radio silence from the program.
Down 5-2. Terrible first half. Rutgers came to play and we aren’t answering.
11-8 victory.  Tale of two halves. Team woke up. Gritty win. Go SB.

Three locals all heading to the big dance. St. John’s, LIU and Hofstra… How about that.

Second game in a row Hjertaas didn’t play for SB. Any intel? Injury? Is she out for the year?

Weekend Watch: Stony Brook, Duke Look To Keep Momentum Rolling

Can Stony Brook's Transfers Keep the Seawolves Rolling?
No. 10 Stony Brook at No. 13 Johns Hopkins, 11 am Sunday

Stony Brook is off to a hot start in 2026, sitting at 5-1 with its lone loss coming by one goal to No. 4 Northwestern. A large part of the Seawolves’ success this season has been the addition of two transfers: Reese Hjertaas and Keira Martin.

Both Hjertaas and Martin were teammates at Limestone University, a prolific Division II institution that closed its doors this past summer. Although unable to continue their careers there as originally planned, both found a new home at Stony Brook under head coach Joe Spallina.

Both had been top performers at Limestone and arrived with significant production and experience. Hjertaas posted 83 points in her final season at Limestone, making her one of the most productive players in Division II before transferring.

The transfers have continued that production at the Division I level, making an immediate impact for the Seawolves and helping replace key production while immediately strengthening the offense.

In the Seawolves’ opener, both Hjertaas and Martin tallied five points — Hjertaas with five goals and Martin with three goals and two assists — accounting for 10 total points and quickly showing they could play with the pack.

The Limestone transfers have essentially provided plug-and-play production for Stony Brook, adding more offensive balance alongside key returners like Isabella Caporuscio and Mirabella Altebrando.

Instead of rebuilding after losing key contributors, the Seawolves added two experienced players who create offense, add depth, and immediately contribute in big games.

Now six games into the season and on short rest after their Friday afternoon overtime win over Denver on Long Island, the Seawolves head into their biggest matchup of the season this Sunday against No. 13 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Hjertaas didn’t play on friday vs. Denver.  Hope all is well. She’s a key player for this squad.

Up 6-5 at the half vs. Denver in a sloppy game. #2 is NOT playing for us today and it shows. (Hope she is ok). We are also being totally dominated at the draw control.  Team better wake up in the second half and start winning some draws or Denver will pick us off. Go SB.

Didn’t play well overall. Our bigs guns: Goods, Andrej, and Brown never showed up. Simmon was outstanding on both ends. Oleg certainly over-achieved. All that said, a very gutty effort as a team unit though. Turning point, imo, is when we had 3 point lead in 2nd half, and Goods missed 4 FT’s in a row. Never recovered from that.
Bingo. The free throw's.  oof.

I’m watching. We can’t make free throws. That was unacceptable when I played in high school.  Yet, it’s rampant in the college game. Has been for years. It’s cringeworthy.  We need to make free shots if we are gonna have a shot.

Watching on Flosports or somewhere else?
Optimum cable at a local pub. Channel 73 MSG2

Good game but this stings.  Getting shut out in the 4th quarter is a tough pill to swallow with a two goal lead.   Got to have these games when they are right there for the taking.  This could’ve been a huge win that put the rest of the country on notice. Spallina must feel sick over this one.

He’s lucky he only got a one game suspension in my opinion.

Nice solid win. A rested top 5 Northwestern team is up next as we wrap up a stretch of 3 games in 5 days. Not a fan of this kind of scheduling in February. Hope the team has enough gas in the tank to run with NW on Saturday morning.

Also, Colorado is ranked all over the place depending on what poll you look at. I guess#15 is the “official” poll? Yet, they defeated Northwestern on the road to open the season. I figured they would’ve shot up all polls after a win like that.

final UVa 19-7.

roughgarden came in for wilk with 10 minutes left.

0/5 on EMO, but we scored at least two right after expiry.  only 17 SOG (less than 50%)- less than UVa totaled in goals.  millon had 13 shots himself, finished with 5g, 2a.

still, a better effort in Q2-3.  which was like the rutgers game- we woke up late, but too late.

otherwise a nice homecoming for Lars Tiffany.  we have a chance to win the next 3 (iona 0-5 and about to lose, bingo 1-3, manhattan 0-4) before we host hofstra.

At some point the school needs to look at the leadership. Raising money and buying a ton of gear doesn’t equal being great. We keep being told we’re building a champion and yet we keep moving further away. There’s a problem when we are looking excited that our next three opponents are a combined 1-13. There a real
Bad culture problem at the program. Needs to seriously be looked at.
I believe it’s year 7 for this head coach and the body of work speaks for itself. It’s a shame that the program has regressed to this point. Hope they can compete in conference but this an abysmal start to the season.
