Fordham is a below average Patriot League team this year, Beating Fordham means we should manage a few wins this season. Losing and things may go south pretty quickly.

The weather said lightning until 10:00 pm.

I tried to sign up on the Flo and they have technical problems and you can't.
Flo is using regular  youtube to show the UNH-HC game now    https://youtu.be/6KN3O2umvcM

because of their technical issues so that might be the case with the SBU game later.

I would've guessed Merrimack to begin the backfilling of Richmond, William & Mary, and Villanova. Sacred Heart isn't a complete shocker.

It is nearly impossible to grasp the financial aid program at Harvard, Yale and Princeton without firsthand experience. It is VERY different from financial aid at other schools.

Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, Harvard College will be free for students whose family income is $100,000 and below. This covers all billed expenses including tuition, food, housing, health insurance, and travel costs. Additionally, each of these students will receive a $2,000 start-up grant in their first year and a $2,000 launch grant during their junior year to help support the transition beyond Harvard.

Students with family incomes of $200,000 or less will receive free tuition and additional financial aid to cover billed expenses, depending on their financial circumstances.

So, when I write the youngsters playing  football (basketball. etc) essentially attend for free (parents earning 200K or less) that is what I mean.  And what mom is sending  the kid cost free to URI/UNH/SBU  when she can send him cost-free to Harvard?

It's simpler than that.

Look at enrollment. Look at media market. Look at school mission.

W&M is a public, but public like Binghamton.

They are not going to be able to afford the pay model the CAA and most of D1 have bought into. I suspect that they'll be leaving the conference once the championship season ends so they don't get banned this season.

Does anyone know if the PL has "opted in" for athlete pay? I suspect they haven't or it is very limited.

That's it. Nothing to see here. I'm not sure if Villanova can follow bc I'm not sure if they can selectively opt out for single sports. Not clear to me.

This was to avoid dropping the sport.
This was the discussion a few weeks ago at W&M when they put off "opting in". As a prestigious public university (with 10K total enrollment) revenue sharing is affordable (remember, there is no minimum unless CAA football sets one and it is unlikely to be significant) but really seems to stick in the craw of the admin there. They've always prided themselves on the student aspect of student athlete and speak on this almost constantly.  The fact that their three biggest CAA football rivals already left the CAA (for various reasons) smoothed the path for football departure.  Of course they could have stayed in CAA football and the league would have been much happier if they did.

(Fun fact; W&M was a founding member of the football Colonial League along with  Holy Cross, Lehigh, Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette but dropped out to be replaced by Davidson...that league is now the football Patriot League.)

Although most expected the next school to exit to the Patriot League following Richmond would be Villanova, this is not a shocker.

William & Mary is leaving the Colonial Athletic Association's football roster to join the Patriot League as an associate member beginning in the 2026 season, the school announced Friday. The Tribe will remain members of the CAA in all sports but football and gymnastics.

Any chance The Patriot League is becoming the strongest football conference in the east?

I was told that Marshall wanted out because he was a 3 Star player coming out of HS but the offers just weren't there so being that he started 4 games his stock rose and that's why he entered the Portal plus he wanted to take advantage of the NIL opportunities.

Someone mentioned that SBU should go after Matt Sluka however today he committed to JMU so he could reunite with his college coach from Holy Cross
As far as Kellenburg's Sluka goes, I'm not sure how much FBS  interest he got  this time  in the portal - he and a pretty good (3rd Team All-CAA)  junior  transfer from Richmond will compete for the starting QB position at JMU.

Don’t put all the blame on UNLV Sluka bares responsibility as well and might find it hard to get another FBS School to offer him. I believe SBU will try and get a QB from the Portal with more than one year of eligibility
Last time Sluka was in the portal he lingered for a long while and then he had to settle for an opportunity to compete for a starter position (at UNLV) as there were  arm concerns. His performance at UNLV (albeit 3-0) didn't put those concerns to rest. This year he has to overcome all that plus concerns he quit on his team over money (unwritten promise or not).

I agree an FBS scholarship offer (forget NIL cash) for QB1 may not be forthcoming for Sluka.

I was thinking local guy (Kellenberg) who absolutely tore it up v very good FCS (and limited FBS)  competition at Holy Cross. And we need a QB. But it is farfetched and he might have crossed FCS off his list long ago.

Holy Cross’ QB Matt Sluka is a local guy and is unclaimed in the portal. We found success with Georgetown’s QB and Sluka similarly has one year of eligibility remaining. (I know he didn’t look great leaving UNLV but he was a winner there too.)

Crazy idea?

Julius Loughridge (Running Back) from Fordham is in the portal and has an offer from SBU. One year left. He's good (2X All Patriot League, First Team) and also has offers from Kent State and Towson (looking at his "Twitter" account).

With 0 wins last year and preseason pick of dead last (16/16) in the CAA this is the most surprising season I've seen in a long time in the CAA.

UNH will be hungry next week and they are good so we'll have a real challenge on our hands up there. Receivers MUST hold on to the ball.

You left one thing out in that he put a really good staff together
It’s in there. And very important.

I admit I was wrong as it never occurred to me Coach Cosh could upgrade the roster, build a good staff, recruit some nice frosh, coach-up the returnees, and quickly turn the program around.  In just a few months.

FCS coach of the year?

They really can beat anyone at this point. The players know it and the staff knows it.

Go SeaWolves!!

Listen guys, why are we talking about Cosh moving on? The folks who have moved on from the CAA had multiple years of success at this level- Cignetti had multiple years in the CAA (and eventually the Sun Belt when JMU went DI) prior to getting poached by Indiana. Ferrante has been at Nova since 2016 and has had tons of success. There aren't a ton of high level places worth going to- the smaller FBS programs aren't exactly a huge step up. As we learned from Priore's contract, you can have a pretty solid contract at SBU.
Good points. But let’s remember his previous job was as offensive coordinator in the MAC. So its possible great success in CAA might lead to a MAC offer.

(Ferrante has been at Nova for a very long time (38 years) as assist and head coach…became head coach at age 57-ish … so he may not be a good example.)

Between weather, opponent, and Homecoming we're not going to get a better shot at a full stadium. Would love to see the place rocking!
