SBU Football / Re: 2025 Football Season

Hate that it's in Early October instead of the end of the season, but I always love seeing a W over Albany, let alone a HUGE win. Been a long time since we got one of those.

Great stuff!

Been living under a rock all off-season, how's the team looking this year? Cosh massively overperformed last season. I feel like if he has another season remotely like last he gets poached by a bigger program.

Conference and Athletics / Re: Conference Realignment Rumors

Brett McMurphy is reporting that on Tuesday NIU will accept an offer to join the Mountain West as a football only school, thus opening up a spot in the MAC:

Now not to get ahead of ourselves, but this could finally be our chance. We've been rumored to the MAC forever and adding us adds another school near UMass and rounds out a nice eastern wing for the MAC. If not us I'd imagine Western Kentucky gets the invite to get the MAC up to 14.

I think if offered we should clearly take it. Can't F**k this up this time.

EDIT: I just realized that with NIU leaving and Umass already slated to join as a full member they'll just stay at 12, at no point will they be at an odd number of members save for next season in football. Nevermind guys, I think we're still stuck.

Somewhat tangential to SBU football, but Ty Son Lawton (who last played here in 2022) is about to take the field for Indiana against Notre Dame in the CFP first round here in about half an hour. Didn't even know he ended up there.

Good for him.

If this team cracks 10 wins this season I’ll be shocked.

Did literally everyone from the CAA title run graduate/hit the portal? The hell…

Why do we look like a HS team next to these guys? Our team is tiny as hell.

A conference championship would be unreal..... All these years in the CAA and it's never been done until....

That'll put it away. Well done!!!

Ugly game, but we won. I'm happy.

Just don't play like that against Albany next week....

I'll be tuning in. I don't expect to win, but if we can at least keep it entertaining for a little bit that'll make me plenty happy.

Halftime Interview with Richard McCormick Airs on SNY
https://news.stonybrook.edu/university/halftime-interview-with-richard-mccormick-airs-on-sny/

Quote
Stony Brook University Interim President Richard McCormick was interviewed by Jonny Wincott of Stony Brook Athletics in a video that aired on SNY during halftime of the October 26, 2024 broadcast of the Stony Brook football Homecoming game against William and Mary.

McCormick talked about his first few months as interim president, pointing to the “team spirit” that he has witnessed on campus from students, faculty and staff, and the “forward motion” the university has generated in advancing academic excellence and investing in important research.

McCormick said he is proud of the football team and new coach Billy Cosh, as well as all of the student-athletes at Stony Brook.

please listen.  Asked how important are sports at SB?  He's been at every game, sports draw people in, it's important, great opportunity for athletes, etc.  Sports are great, good for development, our athletes are good students.  women's lax volunteered to help students move in.  went into the locker room after a victory.  cosh already looking for improvement.

Shoot.... maybe we should just keep him? So long as he sees the value of sports and is able to adequately navigate the research piece to keep us moving up in the rankings what's not to like??

35-13.

About to be 6-2. Shall we start talking about NCAA Playoffs?

Far from a full house. But a good crowd. Just glad to see this program on the right track again

I think we can!! We should be favored in the rest of our games. Of course Albany is Albany and New Hampshire is always a solid program, but taking 3 out of four of those gets us to a 9-3 finish. Doubt it gets us a bye, but we should at the very least get a favorable first round home game.

Ok guys, I'm back out from under my rock...

What a beautiful thing to see SBU once again being RANKED and playing well at home! What an INT!! Still hate seeing an empty stadium on homecoming, but I'll take the program not being a total laughing stock anymore.

Go SB!

45 Points!!??! Are you sure this is SBU we're watching!?! I forgot that kind of scoring was even possible in CFB

Chucky P really overstayed his welcome and held this program back.
