Oof.
What Pratt did was unacceptable and embarrassed the university and couldn't have come at at worse time...talk about the momentum swing of the loss to Monmouth plus losing Pratt for the Hofstra game plus the dark cloud over the team and university now.
1 game suspension does feel about right.
The comments on the NY Post article are disgusting, however. Wow. Most of those people clearly aren't fit to be commenting on decorum, manners, class, how someone was raised, etc. Wow. But, not surprising.
I will say...and this does not excuse what he did...you expect multimillionaire athletes be able to put up with all kinds of fan abuse, and many argue they should just take it (unless it crosses certain lines) as they're compensated to an extreme level and getting heckled is part of the difficult job they are royally paid for. But mid major college athletes aren't really in a position of power relative to the fans...in most cases the fans are wealthier than the players, and the players are just student athletes trying to have fun and maybe help pay for college tuition. I'm not really a heckler (but I am a voracious cheerer/boo-er)...though I have heckled pro athletes as far as group/arena chants (but never a direct personal type interaction)...it would never occur to me to heckle a college kid playing a sport. Maybe because I am an adult. But even back when I was a student attending Stony Brook games, it never occurred to me to personally berate an opposition player.
All of that said, still unacceptable. It wouldn't feel right if he wasn't suspended.
