Although we may have lost, I think this team is pretty legit.

We are 3-0 currently and still have negative things to say about the team. Why? I believe every single CAA team scheduled game vs non D1 teams. Hofstra schedule Molloy and Old Westbury, and they don’t play old westbury until December 10th. At least our non D1 games are done. Even though reading the negativity is not what I wanted to do after a win, the athletic dept has to do better with getting students to the game. With over 26,000 students, we cant find 200-300 students with an interest in basketball?

Erik Pratt and Rob Brown are really good. If both are on the court, I think it gives us a shot to win every single game. It was nice to see Jonah get going last night. Wonder if we can see him play some minutes in future games, seems like he can really shoot. We have a really deep bench which is something good to have, especially in March with the CAA tournament.

Have to think ticket sales come into play. What’s a better chance at selling seats? A game vs Stonehill or a game vs Farmingdale state where the whole team will have family and friends buying seats ?

To Hofstras defense (and trust me I do not want to defend them), this projection was completed before they added 2 bigs to their roster. With the addition of the two bigs, would have to think they do not finish that bad.

Reported that SBU has offered Jordan Hamilton (SIUE transfer; seems short on statistics) and Fredy Salam-Sylla (Eastern Florida State College; looks like a really quick driver).  Any thoughts?

Just wondering who reported about Jordan ? I’m only asking because I know we offered him last year. I also seen someone write we offered Mutlib (could have spelled that wrong) and again we offered him last year but not this year. Just curious if whoever is reporting this is reporting offers based off last year ?

There is a zoom tonight with Geno that will feature a QnA along with talking about next year. It’s more of a perk for season ticket holders.

Frey and Luster to enter the portal

So no one on here wants to admit they donate or they don't donate. I wouldn't either because Heilbronn don't deserve the support.

I’ll admit, I donate $25/monthly to the CR97 Fund. I spoke with the gentlemen who runs the collective. Very friendly and personable. Not affiliated with the university but obviously the university supports it based off the membership benefits.

I was told that Marshall wanted out because he was a 3 Star player coming out of HS but the offers just weren't there so being that he started 4 games his stock rose and that's why he entered the Portal plus he wanted to take advantage of the NIL opportunities.

Someone mentioned that SBU should go after Matt Sluka however today he committed to JMU so he could reunite with his college coach from Holy Cross

He wanted to stay at Stony Brook.

I agree with the sentiment.

And it looks like Coach Cosh was pleased with the success he had with the tandem of a promising freshman QB (Marshall) and an accomplished Grad Student QB (Knopp)--so pleased, in fact, that it appears that he is following that scenario again.  SBU just landed Hampton QB Chris Zellous as a grad student--could be a gem.  The Seawolves previously had signed Tavyon Byrd, as a freshman, who looks like he could be a good one.  I'm kind of surprised and disappointed, however, that Marshall chose not to stay with the team.

Marshall wanted to stay with the team.

Heading into CAA seems we all have the same feeling about this team. I've gotten similar feedback from various fans around the arena. Hard to fault the players who clearly go hard, but they're just a flawed team. Don't we all feel like we know what's coming? They'll give it their best and probably win 3-4 CAA games. As noted, meh.

I'll go ahead and ask what feels like the big-elephant-in-the-room question: You've got 6'9" 200lb Nyarko and he can give you absolutely nothing? Ever? I'm sure there's something I don't know, be that injury or something else.

My biggest question is Nyarko. This is a guy who was commited to Arizona state this season. How can’t he give us anything at all?

Checkmate, it’s great to see you posting again! What an offseason it’s been. I’m excited but skeptical for this year. In college basketball these days, NIL is one of the most important things. It seems that Stony Brook has two NIL entities. The 1957 club (www.the1957club.org) who just hosted their annual casino night. They contribute to all sports within Stony Brook University. Based off Shawn’s tweets, it seems that they also just launched another NIL called the CR97 Fund (www.cr97fund.com). This is a basketball only NIL with a membership platform and one time contributions along with benefit perks. I have taken a look at other teams NIL entities and the memberships seem to be the way to go for mid majors.
