SBU Women's Basketball / Re: Women's Basketball 2025-2026 Season

It's a shame that the board doesn't pay much deserved attention to the female Seawolves.  After a dicey season beginning, the ladies are suddenly on a role and in second place in the CAA standings (5-1).  They've won 5 straight and are now in 2nd place in the CAA standings--due to outstanding defense!  That seems to be Coach Corvey's secret sauce!

Although it's very difficult to do so, I'm really trying hard to limit the gloom and doom and imagine some positives.

1) I really was impressed with Goods.  I thought he showed great skills in all phases of the game.  I would expect him to see many more minutes going forward, as soon as Coach can stop experimenting and settle on a consistent starting 5.

2) It would be great if someone could check on Pratt's status.  I would expect that he would be an extremely valuable contributor, and hope that he doesn't have a serious injury (or based upon some of his history, exhibit significant disciplinary issues).

3) Shoshkikj looks like the real deal to me, and Gorman was outstanding.

4) I'm betting on O'Connor to shake off the cobwebs and return to his better self from the second half of last season, once he adjusts to his new set of mates.

5) There's no doubt in my mind that Brown was inexplicably out of sorts last night.  Unimaginable that he will not be a major source of upside.

6) I would like to see Harbatkin given a shot at playing a role.  He certainly can shoot!

7) At this point, here's my hope for the starting 5 for saturday's Maine game:
-- Goods, O'Connor, Gorman, Shoshkikj, (Brown or Pratt)

I'm not expecting a championship, but I certainly would expect a much-improved showing from this lineup!

I know that it's been difficult to find tape on Kasen Daeger (SBU's only 2026 commitment so far).  I'm sure this is due to his long absence this past season due to an ankle injury.  Apparently he has fully recovered, and was once again a sought after prospect.

I was able to find to find the following video, and if it'd indicative of what he can do, the Seawolves will be lucky to have him.  Watch #10.

I was there.  But, I must say that they're not as entertaining as they used to be.  Mostly for the kids to get autographs these days unfortunately.

I used to really enjoy when Pikiell and Ford would introduce each player individually (and tease them a little in the process).  You got to learn a little about each player, as well as his personality.  Last night provided no insight whatsoever.  Now, just to watch them shoot layups, foul shots and uncontested 3's is no big whoop!

On another issue (a pet peeve)--if you have some influence, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell somebody to turn down the volume on the microphones!!!  The volume can certainly be lowered, and still be well suited for the crowd and the arena.  Last night was painful, and contributed far too much distortion and loss of clarity.  Understandability at the games would be much improved--trust me.

Just noticed there was offer made to a 7'0" C from Monroe College--Riley Dunn.  He's out of Australia.  Any insight?

I would say it's got to be either Zellous or Byrd, with Zellous the most likely due to his experience.  Why go after a grad student unless you plan on using him?

Looks like another very solid commitment:

I like the way this team has shaped up.  It seems to me that they're pretty deep at every position, so that the team could successfully withstand foul trouble in any particular game and not be derailed by injuries during the season.  Of course, what appears great on paper does not always pan out.  But, the way I see it, Coach Ford has every chance to succeed this season--LET'S HOPE SO!!

Don't know whether or not the Seawolves have any shot at all of snagging them, but it looks like there are also offers out for Dywane Chess and Jackson Williams (both highly sought after).

Looks like the Seawolves may just be back to a roster of 13 for 2025, even if Fields is gone!!  Apparently, they have just signed Jake Harbatkin--a guard out of Olympic Heights High School in Florida.  Seems like he could be an excellent late signing.  See what you guys think:

Just saw that the new roster was posted.  Only 12 listed!  What happened to Kenny Fields?

Just saw the supposedly final roster for '25-'26.  While there appears to be substantial new talent on-board for this coming season, I was surprised and disappointed about those underclassman that are no longer with the team.  Does anyone have insight into what led to the departure of the following players for the upcoming year:

-- Breauna Ware
-- Dallyssha Moreno
-- Faith Wylder

Coach certainly has been making it interesting in the recruiting arena.  But, let's not forget O'Connor and Brown as additional battle tested additional guards, as well as Gorman and Goods who could be very good as forwards.  Yes, I'd certainly like to see one additional substantial forward.

Thanks Checkmate.  Sooooooo...looks like another "PROJECT" to me!

On another front:
Stony Brook forward Andre Snoddy has entered the Transfer Portal
@On3sports
 has learned

YIKES!!  You mean we could have had him for another year?

Reported that SBU has signed 7'0" F Oleg Kojenets, who played in limited action, at both Nebraska and Wyoming. Not sure whether he'll be a senior or junior.  I'm hoping he's not another feckless big man we've labeled a "project" in the past.  But this one looks like he may fit our needs, and was once highly rated as a 3* recruit.  So, let's hope for the best.

What's your take, Checkmate?

Hard to determine what's accurate and what's not.  But, maybe we'll be presently surprised.  In addition, SBU's latest offer is reported as Christian Harmon out of Gulf Coast State College (JUCO).  His stats look impressive, but I haven't seen much video.
