It’s disappointing that the lack of success of this program at a major university center persists year after year, no end in sight. Of course it goes back to the AD’s thoughtless extensions of underperforming head coaches.

Just saw this former SBU OC Jeff Behrman has been named HC at Bucknell
I expect CAA football will continue its decline while the Patriot League (Bucknell) will leave the CAA behind, especially with the addition of Villanova.

Around Stony Brook U... / Re: Making SB better- Idea Thread 2.0

The point in the article about not having “New York” in the university’s name is spot on. I thought it was a huge   flub when I first heard about the renaming to Stony Brook University. No wonder it’s confused with Slippery Rock University 🙄 Huge mistake. Whoever thought it was a good idea must have been thinking of Rutgers…but of course Rutgers already had well-established branding for over a century. Hopefully the Chancellor comes to their senses and changes it to the University of NY @ Stony Brook.

When JMU and Delaware jumped it was only $5K now it’s $5M so the only way that I see is if an FBS Conference wants us bad enough to pay a portion of that for us and I don’t see that happening anytime soon

Really should have made the jump while the fee was still that low. Everyone saw the massive increase coming from a mile away.

Don't need me talking more about how the Heilbron era flopped, but everything James Madison does lights the fire in me all over again.
JMU had three things SB didn’t: a supportive student body, a winning tradition, and NOT being located on Long Island. FBS was never in the cards…Heilbron or not.

The multi-year contract extensions weren’t announced because neither one could be justified.

Yang was the first person to put Stony Brook on the map.

The CAA dropped to sixth in RPI among FCS conferences, right behind the Patriot League. Unfortunately SB isn’t showing it will be able to take advantage of the weak conference and compete for the championship.

If anyone else takes pleasure in Albany fan's pain, their message board has been a fun read https://bigpurplefans.ipbhost.com/forum/9-fall-sports-football-soccer-volleyball-cross-country-field-hockey/
From their board: “Eh. In this day and age with NIL, them chasing the $, they are now semi-professional athletes with zero loyalty so I have no loyalty to them. If they suck, they suck. I'd hazard to guess that 90% of them will NOT have a UAlbany degree.”
I get this. Except for the top P4 programs, it’s hard to get excited about lower-tier programs with all the churn.

Dempster was still pretty impressive. A lot of yards after contact. 4.1 yards per carry when the offense was only getting 1.8 per play is pretty great.

Dempster is awesome. That's obvious and SB is lucky that he stayed. I didn't think the o-line was bad at all, but the playcalled was trash and the QBs looked scared and lost. I would run, run and run some more. Use Dempster, Carson and Ragsdale and throw in some QB power with Zellous.
I don’t think many fans want a return to Priore’s “three runs and a punt” offense.

95 yards of total offense. I don’t care who they played, that’s just embarrassing.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get alumni tickets for the SD State game? Is there a visitor section?
The AD might have some he can reserve for you at will-call.

With the 2025 season fast approaching, keep an eye on the NCAA as they have a big vote coming up this month that will decide on a bunch of changes that the Courts have ruled on and how they get incorporated. Once the NCAA makes changes look for another round of Schools jumping to new Conferences and they will trickle down to the FCS as already smaller FBS Conferences have been in conversation to see what FCS Schools might want to jump to the FBS, going as far as willing to pay some of the transition costs (5Million for application to the FBS).

I know a lot of you would love SBU to make the jump there are many things to consider, Scholarships would have to increase, Travel would be more expensive, Coaches' Salaries would be a lot higher, Stadium enhancements and the big one Fee to leave CAA and go FBS
Another thing that would have to change, but wouldn’t, is local fan support for the team. There’s not enough among the student body or local community to make a jump to FBS worthwhile.

The Ivy League was the second highest rated FCS conference last season, and without scholarships.

CAA football  is likely to have a very low revenue sharing   commitment minimum. So the teams remaining  in the severely depleted (Delaware, Richmond, William & Mary, and Villanova) conference are likely to stay. May become a single bid league.
Meanwhile, the greatly strengthened Patriot League is likely to become a multi- bid league. And its rival, the  Ivy League, is finally participating in the FCS playoffs.
So, quite a power shift in east coast FCS football relative to conferences.
I can easily see the Ivy League consistently getting three bids, which makes it even harder for the CAA.
