SB vs Albany 4/12 700pm
« on: April 07, 2014, 10:21:22 am »
The road hasnt been kind to SB this year, losing to... everyone weve played.  Add into the mix that Albany, which was ranked just outside the top 15 and might slide a bit (lost to JHU, beat Hartford), is the most unpredictable team in Division I.  They started off with a one goal barnburner loss to Cuse, turnaround and lose to drexel, blow up harvard and umass, and then lose to bryant.  it keeps going; they beat up on penn state, who was very good at the time, and then give canisius their very first ever top 20 win.  next they defeat vermont, sleep through the first half against hopkins, and solidly bounced back against hartford yesterday.

the lion's share of offense is miles and lyle.  ty would be a starter on most other teams and have video game #s if it wasnt for the other two.  theyve got two middies that can score but nothing much else (except transition).  the entire game runs through miles and lyle.

their defense at times can be ball watchers, with a young goalie who has logged in some big games.  also they seem to have problems with faceoffs most games.  the consensus is- and ive only seen some footage not all- is that you beat them by hanging on to the ball.  theyre going to get into double digits.  if you can hold the ball 35 minutes, you reduce their opportunities.  the offense is also turnover prone, but that's likely a result of how they play.  lots of two way middies and very few role players.

SB looked good through three quarters against Vermont, running up a 9-3 score.  but as always happens, they unraveled a bit in the fourth, letting it get to 10-7.  thats the difference between domination and a close game- just a few minutes of bad play.  still, the defense deserves a lot of credit, as Vermont's strength is their offense.

should be cold and the lights on.  http://www.americaeast.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=14000&&db_oem_id=14000

I would love to get a win here on Saturday. Hopefully having the full week to prep helps eliminate some of the sloppy play we've seen lately.

Too many Thompsons, too many turnovers. Ball carrying on clears continues to be terrible ( poles included ). All around bad.

We actually shut out Albany  a few years ago by a wide margin. Times have changed for sure.

Beat Albany by very close margin a few years ago - when Thompsons were either not there yet or were Freshmen.  The Thompson trio is unbelievable. The entire Albany team played their best game of the season last night and could have probably beaten any team from #1 ranked down.  It's too bad for us that the game they turn it all around is against us.
Yes, we played tentative and scared and turned over the ball way too much....but c'mon. Take a look at our roster compared to most - we are a young team, a very young team.  Still learning and growing and playing most of our games against opponents whose entire starting lineup (or majority of) is Seniors.  We are not there yet.  We will be. Be patient.
Stop harping on the team and the coach. Try to be supportive. I'm sure the kids feel crappy enough without knowing that their so called "supporters" are crapping on them as well.  They know they are making mistakes - but how do you learn without making mistakes?  It's a process. Be supportive now and be part of the process and development of this young team.  My guess is 2 years from now (when the current Sophs are Srs), we will be an amazingly strong team.

Maybe we can get Spallina to coach the men's team.

Not crapping on the kids just giving honest critique of the game and the season. The young excuse is not valid anymore cause they have played just about 2 full seasons. This is a Div 1 sport and no one is going to feel bad for you. They played better last yr and seem to be regressing. And I wouldn't put that on the players, you have to put that on the coach. I understand that he has kids playing with poles that were either offensive middies or a faceoff specialists last yr, I don't blame the kids for that. As a coach you have to take responsibility for getting players in that fit your needs, and so far I don't see were he has addressed the defensive problems. As far as being patient, do you think that Hofstra excepts 3 losing seasons in a row, no they don't. This is big boy lacrosse on Long Island and the excuses are getting old. Players that were inherited have been run off by this coach. You have top notch facilities and play in the heartland of lacrosse and still there are excuses. After a recent loss the coach had said that the kids still are not buying in, maybe there is nothing to buy into. And I would agree that Spallina would be a much better choice.

We'll said Chrissy D.  The young excuse is getting old...coaches Soph class has started what 25-30 D1 games already and the 2 freshmen that start are clearly up to the task.  Rowe is top ten in the nation as a fogo and if you aren't sold on Johnstone just watch the Terps game.  He's also their best option in the clearing game.

Hofstra is back as the kings of LI and SB is about to have its 3rd losing season in a row...unacceptable IMO

Agreed. I'm really tired of every thread turning into negative rant about Nagle.

There is a lot of good talent on this team and the future is bright.
