probably a few things- one is that it's among the highest profile/best teams in the country.  it's nearby.  we have 3 incoming recruits there.  coach chan played there, used to be the JV coach, and i think his dad coaches there.  duke used to come up and play a game here.  might draw more fans/recruits from nassau.  it's something different.

if we are trying to build a pipeline, this would be the school to do it, and this is how you start it.  have a look: https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiting/highschool/team/St+Anthony%27s+High+School/7465

"Watching it my whole life and seeing guys win it when I was younger, it's just been a childhood dream of mine," McCannell said. "To me, it's equivalent to an NCAA championship. Just what it takes to get there is a battle, especially in the Ontario League."

In their year-end awards, the Northmen named McCannell the team's Transitional Player of the Year, Unsung Hero and Most Sportsmanlike.

Picked 4th by inside Lacrosse is insulting and underestimating this team.  Beat Vermont and UMBC last 2 out of 3 and beat Albany last year for outright regular season title.  That said it's definitely a tough conference.

Gilardi's first year will come down to AE playoffs.  Make the tournament and win a playoff game. Go Seawolves!

I think you can take that top four and scramble them any way you like. UMBC got hot late in the year and took the whole thing, which means expectations are high again this year. SB, although regular season champ last year, has some variables in place with a new coach.

As a result, I would not take the preseason poll too seriously. But you're right, the conference will be tough. Should be fun.

some AE analysis.  SBU is on from 18-26min. https://www.collegecrosse.com/2020/1/24/21079403/college-crossecast-2020-conference-previews-america-east-maac-nec-socon-lacrosse-podcast

warning- this is hard to listen to.  it's obvious they've done no research, havent seen a game, and cant name the coaches, where the universities are, etc.  They are looking up stats while speaking, don't know who transferred out, dont know its not american east, etc.  But, since our conference doesnt win much and garners no attention, we get little coverage.  this is it.
