Anyone see this initiative the athletic department is running to recognize the top 20 athletes in school history?  From Mens Lax...Kevin Crowley, Jordan McBride, and Sean Chamberlain.  How on earth is Mike Rooney left off this list? All-American, all time MLAX program leader in points & assists. Challen Rodgers...two time all american, 4th in points, MLL/NLL.

Apparently you're not the only one who noticed some omissions in the ballot. Shawn mentioned in his latest blog entry more choices will be added.

"Earlier this week, we launched our ballot to select the top 20 athletes from our 20 years as a Division I program. The ballot is going to be expanded to include several names who were not included in the original list but should have been.

As with any list such as this, there will always be debate about who should be included. After a review, however, we unintentionally left several names off. Watch for the revamped ballot soon!

Our intention is to celebrate our 20th anniversary and that is exactly what we plan to do. We want to make our 20th year our best one ever!"

While there are a lot of positive initiatives currently taking place in SB Athletics, it appears that this particular one was not given the proper amount of attention/oversight/due diligence.  I appreciate that the AD has recognized some names were unintentionally left off that initial list, but it was more than just “some”. Additionally, there were one or two names included  on the initial list that were total head scratchers IMO.

I don't know the specifics but it seems that certain people who know the history of SB athletics first hand were not consulted. It's also true that anywhere you go people think history began when they got there. Ask any teenager.

I will admit that I might have forgotten some names and I've been broadcasting the men's lax team since it went D-I in 1989. This year was its 30th anniversary and nobody even mentioned it.

So knowing my own limitations, I'm putting it out there for everyone else.

Who belongs on the 20th anniversary athletes ballot and who belongs on the all-time 30th anniversary team?

three posts in the last week implying that at least one LI recruit, perhaps on offense, has committed: https://twitter.com/Anthony_Gilardi

BACK TO LI: GILARDI RETURNS HOME TO COACH STONY BROOK
https://www.uslaxmagazine.com/college/men/back-to-li-gilardi-returns-home-to-coach-stony-brook

Quote
“I haven’t been shy about saying our goal is to build a top-10 program,” Gilardi said. “I’m in it for the long haul. It starts how we treat and coach our players, and how you recruit the right people. There are unbelievable facilities, unbelievable university academics and there’s been success with the women’s program, with the football team, with the basketball teams. The blueprint is there. It’s not like saying ‘We can’t do it at this place.’ Stony Brook wants to be good athletically.”

The blueprint could very well look like the one at Towson, which shares some traits with Stony Brook. Both are public universities in talent-rich areas. The Tigers weren’t an annual NCAA tournament contender when Nadelen took over in 2012, and have now reached the postseason in five of the last seven years.

“We’re going to ask them to do different things than they were doing, so it’s tough to evaluate them based on what they were doing before,” Gilardi said. “They key for us is to attack it on Day One in the fall. It’s about how they handle what we’re asking of them to do culturally, living the right way, working the right way. As a coach, what you want to do is make sure you’re treating these guys the right way.”

Throughout his time as an assistant — at Denison, Ohio State, Navy and then Towson — Gilardi kept notes on how to get ready to run his own program. He picked the minds of fellow coaches. He kept an eye on other sports, doing things like catching a glance at how football coaches presented their programs at SEC and Big Ten media days.

“Stony Brook is going to be a mainstay in the conversation,” Nadelen said. “He’s got the ability and I know he has the energy and excitement and he’s going to build that program up. There’s no doubt. He denied it for a long time, but it was an opportunity that made perfect sense and it’s a great fit.

missing is: jack walsh (i think he transferred to SHU), darrin simons, anthony beck, jake wandle (went to farm state last spring), nolan enneguess (transferred to umass).

if you go by the "unofficial" commitment lists, we should have 21.

celauro, sabella, craig, button, ronan, napoli, day, lowd, reksten, ferrara, callan, gallagher, armitage, fraeyman, stewart, alward, dolciotto, kaminska, rumpf, lebson, bellomo

i think (not sure) lebson is the first gilardi recruit in this class.  really can't tell though.

of course, there's always the chance that i have some of these guys listed in the wrong class.  so corrections are welcome.

not on the roster (will require some research): day, reksten, ferrara, dolciotto, kaminska, rumpf, bellomo

ferrara- went to merrimack

podcast with gilardi: https://audioboom.com/posts/7395911-10-14-new-coach-podcast-stony-brook-s-anthony-gilardi

-similarities with towson, which should transfer over
-wants to use the spallina blueprint- find tough, hardworking, local LI players
-loves SH, and claims that SH knows every athlete's name at SB (not surprising at all)
-talked a lot about his staff, allows them to challenge him; added another coach
-wants to build a top ten program
-will play more transition
-is looking at the transfer portal and had some visits already
-would rather have 10 of the right recruits than 20 that don't fit
-teaching fundamentals first; started with evaluations
-will not watch old film, and will base evals on current play and buy-in
-emphasis on strength program; biggest area for growth
-spoke very fondly about all of his former bosses and their impact on him
-has a network of college coaches at all levels

2/25 @ STONY BROOK
The Long Island Rivalry. Both squads will bring there A-game to this one as they battled it out for the 11th time. Stony Brook won last year’s meeting 11-10, scoring in the final minute to secure the win. Hofstra leads the all-time series 6-4.

i think i heard somewhere that we scrimmage BU, and that Fairfield is on the schedule.
