I caught a glimpse of the game in the first half when SB was down by 2.. I dont follow SB Lacrosse that much, but why did they struggle against SH? Is SH really that good, or did SB take a step backwards..

I watched around 15 minutes of the game, I was extremely impressed with Rees #17 (Sophomore)!  He is a human vacuum cleaner in GBs and has great speed! I wouldn't be surprised if earns at least HM All-America and possibly third team All-America.
The team this year is extremely young with several freshmen receiving significant minutes and looked very tentative when running the offense, but still scored 12 goals. I'll cherish every win this season, especially the ones on the road.
Stony Brook lost a ton on offense due to graduation, while Sacred Heart returned 6 of their top 7 scorers from last season and they had 13 players undergo surgery last season.
Nice win - I'll take it!

Here are the guys in the home opener last year for reference:

Great picking up our first 'W' of the season. I think the younger guys will settle in and give us a great season... Looking forward to the next game!

As always, thanks to the Chairman for live updates!

a few things... over the years true parity is really getting closer.  games that used to be a sure thing are no longer.  attribute this to kids wanting to play rather than ride benches.  and also youtube allowing coaches to find talent in non-traditional regions.

secondly, this team lost nearly everyone from its starting lineup.  AND I note that last year's starting team played all four years, leaving not much PT for the younger guys.

thirdly, with games now pushing up to early Feb (a month earlier), there is a shorter offseason, cold weather, didn't install offense etc yet.  Ripe for upset.

I didn't realize 13 players had surgery last season... that's gotta be 12 more than usual no?

frost- youre welcome!

one of our biggest games of the year is three weeks away- tough, tough break for Rutgers- two top offensive players down for the season: http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/injury-updates-rutgers-trasolini-to-miss-2017-season-denver-s-pace-bu-s-talkow-more/48368

a few more thoughts... understanding it's one early game against an opponent that's lost 13 straight. http://www.stonybrookathletics.com/news/2017/2/14/mens-lacrosse-stony-brook-takes-down-sacred-heart-in-season-opener.aspx

positive first.  haun is going to be a force.  he blows by his defenders as if they are carrying barbells.  he showed dodges from both x and wing, and can finish inside.  CVG got stuck in the crease, not sure if that's planned but his film showed he plays more perimeter.

corpo and reh were clutch when needed.  I thought their goalies made some good saves.  we are going to run a lot of mids this year.  wayne white does NOT look like a freshman.  his decisions, agility, ball protection, and penetration look like a veteran.  grippe is going to be good with more minutes under his belt.

rees is clutch too.  it looks like defense will be a mix of abdellatif, gerstner, pugal, with rees on pole and Anderson moving around.  trenkle got on which is a good sign too.

in 2017 and 2018, this bodes well if the lineup stays together and adds news players.

transition was good; perfect on clearing; crisp passing without panic.  not surprising considering nearly all of our defensemen are converted middies; so we will have range and tempo.

the bad.  two shot clock violations.  defense/mids at times left SHU wide open (none are true defensemen).  we cant let a mid from SHU score 5 on us (3 in the first Q over 4min).  and then let their attackman score 3 in a row in 2.5 min.  some easy saves missed.  hart and sheets appear hurt, or maybe were dinged up I dunno.  our offense is very much dodge first and we had trouble against their shorts (the previous years have fed inside).

GO SB

Chiquen to Jacksonville
Ouch! Jacksonville lost 17-1 to Marquette (supposedly down this year) at Jacksonville! The coach must have used voodoo to trick the kid to transfer  ;D

Another transfer in Brian Prestreau (senior at Penn State) doesn't even touch the field as a senior.
