SB Lacrosse 2017 Season
« on: May 11, 2016, 11:03:48 am »
Disappointing end to 2016 needs to go behind us.  Let's start with the constants: we graduate Schultz, Easty, Sichenzia, Rogers, Hughes, Rock, Curry, Oliveiri, Fleming, Buron.

We should be returning: Bitzer, Corpo, Chicquen, Reh, Lindsay, Abdellatif, Ellis, Pugal, Robison, Anderson, Rees, Randall, Macie.

Sheets and Daly got some time over the last season or two, maybe a little for Roros.  There's a host of young guys and then of course, freshmen:

82 1 Haun, Tom Holbrook NY Sachem North NY Attack E Stony Brook
238 1 Byrne, Aidan Niskayuna NY Niskayuna NY Attack E Stony Brook
1065 1 McLean, Brody Toronto ON St. Michael's ON Attack E Stony Brook
668 1 Grippe, Connor Setauket NY Ward Melville NY Attack E Stony Brook

195 1 Rope, Mackenzie Pitt Meadows BC Pitt Meadows BC Midfield E Stony Brook
196 1 White, Wayne Huntington NY John Glenn-Elwood NY Midfield E Stony Brook
204 1 Dugan, Tom Commack NY Commack NY Midfield E Stony Brook
535 1 Matsuoka, Harrison Calgary AB Robert Thirsk AB Midfield E Stony Brook
670 1 Pickel, Chris Bayport NY Bayport-Blue Point NY Midfield E Stony Brook
956 1 Boehm, Brian Babylon NY Babylon NY Midfield E Stony Brook
980 1 Van Ginhoven, Cory Charlotte NC Butler NC Midfield E Stony Brook
982 1 Kadnar, Mike Franklin Square NY Carey NY Midfield E Stony Brook

1285 1 Dowd, Tristan Madison CT Daniel Hand CT Midfield/FO E Stony Brook
700 1 Rao, James Central Islip NY Islip NY Midfield/FO E Stony Brook

493 1 McDonaugh, Sean Islip NY Islip NY Defense/LSM E Stony Brook
2622 1 Shephard, Jake Schenectady NY Niskayuna NY Defense/LSM E Stony Brook
984 1 Trenkle, C.J. Commack NY Commack NY Defense E Stony Brook

392 1 Bollinger, Michael Holtsville NY Sachem East NY Goalie E Stony Brook

Grippe is playing mid this year for the 12-3 Ward Melville squad: http://www.newsday.com/sports/high-school/boys-soccer/grippe-kellerman-lift-ward-melville-past-chaminade-1.11646429

Damn...that's a lot to lose.

I wonder who steps up on attack.   Bitzer, Sheets, Howell, & Ozsvath?    Fingers crossed the new Brody is like the old Brody.   Could see Bitzer going back to Middie

Randell and Anderson down low.   3rd spot up for grabs

Corpo, Daly and Chicquen at Mid but I could see Reh playing O Mid too

Set at FOGO and goalie.   Wonder if Johnstone comes back?  Plenty of shorties too

Can't see the team being as good as this season but hope I'm wrong.

They should be solid on the def end. Keep Reh doing what he does, he's all-american caliber at it. Rees and Anderson are two of the best LSM in the country. Maybe Talay and Seaburg get at shot at close d. I'd like to see Bitzer go back to mid with corpo and Roros. I like what I saw from Roros in the scrimmages. Maybe run a true 2nd midfield with Daly. The freshman White coming in is a great athlete. Chiquen would be a nice attackman along with maybe Howel  and Orzath. The kid Haun from Sachem is pretty good too. Robinson , Ellis, Pugal anchor the rest of the d. Just my thoughts.

not sure where this ends... but in the last two weeks, zimmerman (BC), curtis (VT), nelson (Bingo), and lawrence (Hartford) all resigned.

That is strange for a league to lose 4 coaches at once.

Would love to make it 5.  Hard to see both Sowell and Tiffany in the Quarters and Nagle not even making it to the AE Final with "his class".   Decent recruiter but below average coach IMO.

Dom Starsia out at UVa.

why might this matter?  because with 7 open head jobs (possibly more to come?), one move might tip the dominoes...

Also, not that we didn't have enough holes to fill. Randall and Chiquen will not be coming back.

They are becoming a juco. Get the players seasoned and off to a big school. First Rowe now Randell.

Its all about the right fit. Student athletes come and go all the time. Looking forward to see
how the roster shapes up.

Quote
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (12-4)

The Good: You finished the season ranked and were in contention for an at-large bid. Challen Rogers was a Third Team All-American, and complemented Alex Corpolongo on the first midfield line.

The Bad: You lost to Vermont in the America East Tournament semifinals, and also lost to Brown and Marist in close games. Matt Schultz and the British Columbia duo, Rogers and Brody Eastwood, are departing, along with goalie Zach Oliveri.

The Future: You'll bring in at least 11 guys next season. That's a good amount. Notables include attackmen Aidan Byrne (Niskayuna) and Connor Grippe (Ward Melville), along with midfielder Chris Pickel (Bayport-Blue Point). And with two western Canadians going, the Seawolves will add two new western Canadians in midfielders Mackenzie Rope (Pitt Meadows, BC) and Harrison Matsuoka (Robert Thirsk, AB).

With so many gone to graduation its time for guys to get hungry. We have been pretty set at starting attack
and middies for the last 3-4 years. There are a lot of spots up for grabs. Should be interesting.
Maybe that's why Navy is on the horizon for October, try and get a feel for the roster early.
