I think SBU will need the Duke win for the bid. Duke can't afford to lose to SBU. One game at a time but....  that game is going to be a great one. Would sure be nice to take care of Duke on 4/15.

on to the boxscore.  last week i made a comment about our one-handedness on offense.  and last week corpo banged a lefty laser.  this week, hughes with a righty laser.  they should do it more!

we somehow won GBs 33-26; if you watched the game, that almost cant be right...

we talked the last three seasons about all the one goal losses... they are starting to turn into three goal wins.  i imagine that if we had luca and johnstone we'd have done better.  we hit a few posts.  their goalie made some outstanding doorstep saves.

i was praising our d-mids and while orban had 5, the rest of the midfield and the bench was shut down.  again, great game for our d-midsm, regardless.

we needed hop to lose this wkd to move up even more, and got it.  yale already won.  navy lost which helps.  lets hope PU keeps winning; fairfield and marist too.  are duke and albany on notice???  GO SB

Even though coach doesn't care about the rankings I'll take 14th in the Nation...19th in the Nike poll

Cascade/Maverik Media Poll: Stony Brook Rising
http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/cascade-maverik-media-poll-stony-brook-rising/31587

"The polls really don't play into what we do," he said.   I get it coach but when you win and beat ranked teams the pollsters take notice and so do potential incoming recruits.   It's matters.

Game 12- SB at UML
4/10 630pm
video: pending
49' and rain all day (80-90%)

gametime moved up 30 min (i think).  new program here and first in the series.  as a result, they brought in a massive recruiting class, which runs up and down the east coast and even canada.  i havent seen them play.  not much info out there.  they are coached by ed stephenson, the former bingo coach.

at 1-9 in their maiden voyage, they defeated another new program, NJ Tech, by a score of 9-7.  the canucks get the lion's share of points.  they've played some good teams (yale, fairfield, albany) but havent really been in any games, except the lone victory.  albany just pasted them 25-0, which sounds like a score that couldve been 35-0.

its tough for new programs.  to add on to the pile, they are starting almost all freshman and a few sophomores.  in fact, the team has no upperclassmen.  they're 0-4 in the conference already and i think most likely eliminated from the postseason.  they've played two different goalies.

any word on whether luca and johnstone are healthy?  defense played outstanding 1v1 defense vs PU, and also recovered quickly on early slides (Lucas Rock in particular- A plus).

i note we are running four middies this year, with chicquen at times getting on as a fifth.  our offense pushes the ball hard on the dodge, and whips it around quickly, creating backside opportunities.  fortunately, we have the outside shooters to threaten from the top, and the sneaky attackmen who can get open on the GLE.

SB looked pretty good against princeton, at least for 3 quarters.  four wins in a row, 3-1 on the road, scoring over 14 GPG.  i like the wolves to get their third conference win and move on to Lehigh this sunday, which is at LaValle.

GO SB

thanks joey- note that fairfield appeared at 20.  why is that important?  because if they stick around, that's another top 20 win!

i was hoping Rutgers pulled off that hopkins game... wouldve helped, though hop is 4-7 now and in danger of falling short of .500 and being ineligible.

similarly, if marist pulled off the OT game against brown, that would help even more.  the foxes have an interesting game at hofstra and then have a chance to win out.  marist is one in front of SB in the current RPI: http://www.laxpower.com/update15/binmen/rpi01.php

and lehigh plays a ranked princeton team this week... interesting... and even more interesting, fairfield has a HUGE conference tilt against towson in CT.  they win that one, good for SB.  go stags.

otherwise, we should be in front of army but behind towson.  even marquette arguably has better wins than SB.  GT is a close call.  but no reason to argue over a spot or two in early april.

we of course need to get through the AE or the PU win becomes of very little use... unless of course, we beat the Dukies!

gotta love quint... he always throws us a bone.  how's about #9?

9. Stony Brook — The Seawolves have won eight of their last nine games, the latest was 13-10 gem over Princeton. Mike Rooney now has 67 points, trailing just Lyle Thompson. Brody Eastwood has 39 goals, tied for No. 2 in the land. The offense is scoring 14.5 goals per game.

The America East is a two-horse race, with Albany beating Stony Brook, 17-15, on March 14 being the most significant game thus far.

It’s interesting to see that Stony Brook has a non-league game on April 15 against Duke. I believe this was a weather postponement. It becomes a Wednesday game of national significance.

also this: 7. Albany — Even in defeat, I was very impressed with what I saw from Albany in a Thursday night loss at Syracuse. If the Danes can figure out their face-off woes, lookout. Lyle Thompson is averaging 6.8 points per game and continues to amaze. If Albany wins the America East AQ — and it won't be easy beating Stony Brook again — this team is a matchup nightmare in the NCAA Tournament. Others can't say that.

Thankfully, Joe Willie cares about the rankings.  And that's why he should be added to the coaching staff.  His lacrosse knowledge is second to none.

Here I am. Loving the season.  Kids are playing great.  Huge win on Sat.   Enjoying some humble pie.

And yes, I'm shocked the D is playing so good, shorties especially.    Glad captaindj21 is back too.   Always happy to hear his thoughts.

i normally wouldnt care about some unofficial poll... but hey its monday and i have to wait four days to watch the dogs play. http://laxallstars.com/chaos-in-the-polls/

Quote
10) Army – Army still has most of the tools you need to be a top 10 team, but they are neck and neck with a couple of teams in my poll. Yale, Brown, and Stony Brook all got some consideration for the 10 spot, but in the end I went with Army because of their strong offensive potential.

13) Stony Brook – Oh hey, Sea Wolves! Last week I threw you in the Top 20, and this week I look like a genius because you’re climbing the ladder! After a two goal loss to Albany people took notice. Four straight wins (with the last coming over Princeton) makes SBU an undeniable selection for this week’s poll. They’re 9-2 with a softer schedule, but SBU can score, and as you can see, I typically like that!

15) Princeton – I can’t knock the Tigers too far down even though they’ve lost their last two games. Brown is a potential monster still, and Stony Brook seems to be legit this year.

over at laxmagazine, a publication that i usually respect, very little mention of SB.  and then, the poll.  #19, FOUR spots behind princeton: http://laxmagazine.com/college_men/DI/2014-15/lm_rankings

in the "who's hot" column?  four teams mentioned, not SB.

in the "who's not" column, princeton.

in the "who's new" column, this:
Quote
Stony Brook (19): Brody Eastwood scored five goals in the win against Princeton to reach 40 goals for the third straight season. The Seawolves are Albany's toughest competition for the America East title, having lost to the Great Danes by two this season.

to me, that says they looked at our stats to date, picked the leading goal scorer, threw his name out there.

it seems the wolves have (nearly) everyone's attention... http://www.collegecrosse.com/2015/4/6/8341643/college-ncaa-lacrosse-weekend-recap-box-score-stories-articles-duke-notre-dame-hopkins-princeton

Stony Brook is going to be an odd conversation point if the Seawolves are unable to earn the America East's automatic invitation to The Big Barbeque. Stony Brook is rising in the polls but the team's RPI profile isn't all that hot right now: 22nd in the RPI with a weighted RPI strength of schedule ranking of 41st, the team has one top 20 RPI win -- Princeton. The team should get a bump by playing Duke and, presumably, Albany again, but it's going to be hard for the Seawolves to have its RPI ranking and strength of schedule ranking significantly rise with dates against Massachusetts-Lowell, Binghamton, Hartford, and whatever first round opponent the team sees in the America East Tournament. The Seawolves are in an awful position for a program that is having a solid season. Stony Brook remains a concern worth investigating given the uniqueness of the team's situation.

the same publication moved us up 5 spots to 13, and wrote:

Stony Brook: I gave the Seawolves a push and a pretty sizeable one at that. We'll see if that holds up, but two America East teams in the top 15 is both scary and interesting.
