flag on talay for slashing, NJIT EMO.  they got a couple of nice shots off but threw it away.  all even, baggett scores a low bouncer on the run for NJIT.

buron flagged for cross checking.  lomeli outside shot off hip goes in, 16-4 SB.

timeout NJIT.  7min left.

SB kills flag.  stemke from up top, sweeps left, face dodge and 10 yard shot for the score.  that's his first as a seawolf.

lloyd got on the board with a goal- got open on the crease for a one timer, fed by sheets.  that's lloyd's first in the scarlet & gray.

17-4 SB finish.  good effort today.  i expect the highlanders to improve.  i think in 5 years time NJIT will look back and think of how far they've come in a short time.

i wonder if htis will have implications- as i believe duke currently has 3 suspensions and a key player playing injured.

albany doubled up a pretty good drexel team and i heard that thompson may have gotten a bit dinged up.  oakes and fields had a big coming out party.  weather was of course cold and snowy.

otherwise, hartford lost to bryant, UML lost to siena; vermont lost to providence.

UMBC beat monmouth and bingo plays marist tomorrow.

bingo game moved back a day, likely to make room after the duke game was added to 4/15: http://www.stonybrookathletics.com/sports/m-lacros/spec-rel/022315aab.html

Game 4- Fairfield at SB
2/28 12pm
televised AETV http://www.americaeast.com//mediaPortal/player.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=14000&KEY=&id=1306308&catid=0
27' and sunny

Fairfield is a program that has quite a bit in common with SB.  games are reasonably close with the stags winning the last few.  id argue that SB competes for similar talent in the recruiting world.

a few years ago the stags were set to make headlines with an emerging upper class, prolific offense, and a stud goalie.  they flopped in the conference tourney (sound familiar?) and a lot of players graduated.  regardless, theyve been pretty good over the last two seasons registering a good record and some nice wins.

fast forward to 2015- a transfer out (greenfield... or is he in grad school?) and a few key graduation losses make the stags potentially a different team.  not much to go on with wins over manhattan and providence.

in 2014 the stags won 15-13 at LaValle.  the attack did well for SB, but the defense couldnt stop any one of the starting offense.  one mid had 5 goals.  another had 3.  on the positive side, their finisher (warden) was held to one.  he graduated.

fairfield seemingly generates offense from midfield and shares the ball well.  but then again, they've played providence, manhattan, and holy cross (whose major upsets remain to be evaluated so far).  expectations were high this year for the stags, and they lost by one to HC to start- HC might be really good this year- consider the weather too.

fairfield has a lot of west coast players- also recruits MD, PA, NE, etc.  not sure about their recruits, but they have a huge roster.  they have a significant transfer (Schnider) at midfield from OSU.  the preseason ECAC poll has them fourth, just in front of hobart.

we are also catching fairfield in the middle of a long road stretch.  cold weather too.

GO SB

hofstra blew the doors off manhattan, 18-0.  that prompted a review of the rare shutout in lax: http://www.collegecrosse.com/2015/2/25/8107305/college-ncaa-lacrosse-lax-shutout

Quote
2010: Albany 0, Stony Brook 15. Albany took 36 shots on Stony Brook with 15 on goal, none getting past Charlie Paar, John Bella, or Nick DiGiacomo. The Seawolves would go on to finish the year with a 13-4 record and a loss to Virginia in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament as the event's eight-seed while Albany was able to string together a 5-11 record and a trip to the America East Tournament championship (where the Danes would again fall to Stony Brook, 7-11).

It’s nice that he got recognized.  He's proved for the past 2+ seasons to be a great player and one that has the ability to carry a team on his back.

Congrats to Challen! Great recognition for him and for SBU.

A little warmer today than last week.  Fairfield should be a good game.  I know Johnstone not playing today - he has been sick all week and unable to practice.  Good opportunity for Mace (I assume) to get some playing time.
Good luck to the boys - can't wait to watch!
Lax season in full swing now. Love it!!!
