He was already voted one of Albany's five captains, and Marr said Lyle has been more vocal in practice than in the past, getting the offense on the same page as they work to develop chemistry with new starting personnel, including several freshman in the attack mix.

It will be even more different with their cousin, Ty, out of playing time at Albany, too. He scored 41 goals last season, his senior year. Miles and Ty accounted for 37.7 percent of the Great Danes' points; Lyle 28 percent.

"All five of those guys, and Lyle, are all capable of playing at any time," Marr said. "We like our depth. We like that we can interchange some of those guys. A couple can play that four-man position that we run, the fourth attackman. We really like the depth. Three righties and two lefties that are paired up with Lyle. He seems to be pretty comfortable with all of them right now. We feel pretty fortunate about that. We're excited for some of these young scorers to play with Lyle, and fill the net up hopefully as much as we have the last couple years."

Instead of traditional three-man midfield lines, Albany runs four pairs of two with a fourth attackman on the field. The top six attackmen are all capable of playing in that spot, Marr said, and the midfield returns relatively intact, losing just one key senior.

And this might not be the final roster heading into 2015. Don't be surprised if, by the start of the real season, the current Albany group adds some transfers that will help boost the offense.

Defensively, Albany has more work to do to solidify a new starting lineup. In front of Riorden (54.9 save percentage in 2014), there will be three new starting defensemen and there are eight players jockeying for those spots, although two long-stick midfielders are back in Eric Cantor and Harry Erickson.
