Rutgers vs SB 3/1 4pm
« on: February 24, 2014, 02:19:48 pm »
The absolute strength of Rutgers is their goalie, Kris Alleyne.  He is averaging 15 saves a game and i saw him play in person last year, he is the real deal, and this is problematic because of how well the Duke goalie played against us (especially in the first half).

UVa pulled away from the Knights, but, they were in that game through halftime (followed on gametracker).  They can hurt you in many ways and dont really have one single goto guy after Scott Klimchak.

Otherwise, Nardella is a formidale faceoff middie.  I predict a close game!  Why not, last year was 3OT.  Lets go Scarlet... and Gray!

Like to see us win this one and go 2-2 on the young season.

Damn...their Goalie had 21 saves vs UVA...we are going to need to feed Eastwood for the high precentage shots.  Gotta go 50+% on draws too...

I agree with the Chairman though...it will be a close game but the Seawolves have to find a way to win it at LaValle

one thing i forgot to mention- the dukies were very methodical about how they attacked our defense.  they intentionally went after our shortsticks on every possession.  now i know this sounds obvious, as its the past of least resistance.  but sometimes when youre outmatched (we were, werent we?) your attack likes to go after the poles.  duke is very disciplined and continued to dodge against the shorts, forcing long slides and creating offense.

some coaches think this is the absolute only way to do it, and i dont necessarily disagree.  i wonder what rutgers will do.

from what i remember last year- we came out and pumped in some goals right away- a nice cut from hughes and finish- and then we dried up for most of the game.  with a lot of freshmen, cold weather, and an early season game, we threw away the ball a lot.  rutgers came out a little flat in the first quarter and then as they went back to normal, they played catchup the rest of the game, and we ended up tied at 8.

these teams i think are very evenly matched and so it should be close.  and cold.  GO SB

solid win today and great for our defense to hold to under 10.  s klimchak was neutralized and i think that deserves a lot of credit.  we kept the flags to a reasonable minimum.

rowe had another big day.  hughes was great, no one could stop him.  we spread the ball around otherwise.  bitzer got some good run, i like the drive from X that schultz scored on, and also cunningham got some run on faceoffs.

RU had some trouble hitting the cage.  rambo is a bigtime shooter, he likes to go high.  had nardella been in this game it mightve been closer.  with that said, it was really "over" until 3min left when andreassi scored on EMO to go 11-8.

andreassi played great too.  i think curry had a big game, i like that he's played three different positions already and he was hurt as a freshman, sounds like a team player.

we got a lot of shots off feeding the crease but alleyne made some great inside stops.  he kept them in this game.  we created a lot of opportunities in the funnel, that is, driving down the side and then down the goal line towards the cage.  thats what rutgers gave us, as the pressed rogers hard at the box (he did 3,3 last year).  i think they also tightened up on easty, which explains the mere one goal.  ;D

one negative i think was we let them score at the beginning of both halves.  we played good for three quarters but seemed to be flat in the third.  good job today guys, GO SB.

a few other thoughts- no balzano today?

the AETV site is developing the instant replay, which is good, though its still not perfect yet.  if they zoomed just a bit more, the feed would be optimal.  i loved how the end of the game is followed by a highlight reel of SB goals.   ;D

maryland beat up on duke, so we have our work cut out for this week.  GO SB
