Lafayette vs SB 2/18 6pm
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:50:16 am »
The Leopards open their season against SB.  LC will host patriot rival colgate a few days after this game.

last year they opened up their season by stunning gtown- not sure if thats ever happened before.  then they went on a skid all year and couldnt score.  they struggled and that is an understatement.

last year they scored on us from midfield.  most of their team returns.  theyre actually a lot like SB in that its a very young team.  should be a good game.  i dont really know much about lafayette.  i think they graduated one pole, stearns.

if SB is going to compete, i think they cant give up 40+ shots for the game.  andreassi had a big game last year and we will need him back for tuesday.  game video is on the web.  GO SB

rain and snow on and off today.  not optimal conditions at LaValle.  should be under 30' by game time.

brutal early home schedule for the wolves. the weather is just a killer this year. it sucks because it probably means 300-600 less fans at the game

Curious if their will be any lineup changes tonight.  Was Shaughnessy hurt?  Surprised he didn't start game one.

Would be nice to see Andreassi and Sichenzia back in action.  Pretty sure the starting attack played the entire game last week.

Dogs beat Cats.  Tough night for LC.  They really couldnt hit the cage yet still scored 10.  They looked a lot like us last Friday.  Except we won a lot more faceoffs against Marist.  The Leopards were in this game for just under a half before it broke open.

Especially in the first half- we played a lot of transition and scored there and on EMO.  Very proud of the offense tonight.  12 assists on 18 goals, so we are moving the ball well.  Easty is so sneaky on the low crease.  Also 25/32 SOG.  LC was a dismal 16/40.  We dominated GBs and FOs.  23 turnovers is a bit high but- we runned and gunned and also we emptied the bench.

Clearing wasnt spectacular; dont let the # fool you, its even worse than it shows- there were a few that we threw away right after we crossed the line and got credit.  And a few outlet passes werent great but might have connected.  By the same token, there were at least two EMO goals that we scored on second chance.  But im proud of the boys and EMO looked great.  They rode well and created those chances.  Btw Easty had 3 EMO goals.   8)

We looked aggressive on defense and on riding, pressing out to the box and LC isnt the most threatening team we will see but this was a good night for us.  Almost everyone got on the field and the total was held to 5 before the garbage time started.  Our defense deserves a lot of credit for that.

Kyle Rowe is a gamechanger for us.  If we win big games, it will be on him.  The combo of him and Lindsay with Zorn and Harris (i even saw the Judge on the wing) will do well for us.

Easty hits nearly everything, what an inside shooter.  Boxla really pays off.  He took 8 shots, 7 on cage, 6 scores.  One incredible behind the back highlight shot too.  Great to see Sichenzia back, he is one of my favorite players for us.  And Schultz- again showing the wing dodge- shows how versatile he is with three assists.

Tonight was a big positive for us but still some wrinkles to shake out.  Id like to see the poles move the ball on the fast break unless absolutely uncontested.  Also when breaking, its unacceptable at this level to hang the stick.  You *have* to know that.  Even i know that!   :o 8)  Good job though Seawolves and dare i say it... but we looked tonight like... Albany???  Any takers?

It will take a tall order to beat Duke, but, if we are going to do it, its going to be the team we saw tonight.

I'm pumped. There's a lot of really good young talent on this team. A lot people seem to be calling for Nagle's head, but I think he's got the program going in the right direction.

was nice to see pretty much everyone get some run...

Harris played 3 quarters at close D...Feeney didn't look hurt but who knows.  Harris was active though.

Ellis got some good run in the 4th...kid is so fast and plays with a ton of engery...could be next to Rock at SSDM next year

Zach Smith was 2/2 on face offs

Was hoping Johnstone went in earlier but coach put him in with 2 minutes left...made one nice save and did a Brent Queener clear...what's up with Shaughnessy?

Also, Chris saw the Sachem coach after the game...he mentioned Tyler Andreassi is red-shirting with a hip injury...his HS football coach ran him into the ground

If Curry continues to play the wing on F/O's he is going to get a ton of GB's because half the time Rowe just lays it out there for the pole.

yes and some faceoffs rowe has that ability to push forward and create the break.  there are a lot of solid faceoff mids that can eclipse 50% and yet still not create the break.

i noted earlier that we did push the ball on breaks last night- reminded me of 2010- and i like it.  except the poles taking shots, not a big fan of that.  maybe if it was the right shooter- like a waldeck- or completely uncontested from 7 yards out.  the reason i wrote that was because we had a pole fast break right after a goal; if we couldve pulled it out, and killed 2min, you make them pay.  make the play defense the way marist made us play defense- and lose.

The attack was great ( Rooney,Brody, Shultz, Sichenzia ) I too am a big fan of Sichenzia. Curry is looking more and more  like a difference maker. I guess he makes it look easy but nobody mentioned Rodgers who is the real deal. I think Harris earned a starters role, he is more athletic, physical, and has a better stick than Feeney. Saw some good things from some of the freshman, Corpolongo, and Ellis. Rowe is a stud. And hopefully Mike Andreassi is back soon his brother Tyler is still recovering from hip surgery last spring and is redshirting.
