Our Picks: Who's Winning the Men's DI Conference Tournaments?
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/our-picks-who-s-winning-the-men-s-di-conference-tournaments-/57821

Quote
America East
Terry Foy: UMBC
I’m picking the Retrievers because of a combination of home-field advantage, conference tournament experience, close game experience and the idea that defense wins in May (which, in the shot clock era, I’m not even certain is true any longer).

Kevin Brown: Stony Brook
This is by far the toughest conference tournament to predict. UMBC is the No. 1 seed and hosts, but I expect UAlbany to handle the Retrievers just like they did on April 11, despite having their contest versus Hartford postponed this weekend. Stony Brook will avenge their heartbreaking loss to Vermont, who won't have their own timekeeper this time around, before playing even more of a complete game in the title game than they did in their 16-10 win over the Great Danes earlier in the season.

Matt Kinnear: Vermont
This conference is an absolute toss-up to pick; I feel less confident about this selection than any of my others. I’m going with Vermont, partially because they’re the most battle-tested in the weeks leading up to the tournament, having to play their way in and play the likes of UAlbany and Stony Brook. And, I think their offense is the most complete and complementary among the remaining teams.

Ty Xanders: Stony Brook
What a crazy and chaotic year it’s been in the AE. Anthony Gilardi’s Seawolves have to have a bad taste in their mouthes after consecutive one-goal losses to UMBC and Vermont (especially the latter, a game clock fiasco), and I see them pulling it out on Saturday a.m. and going to the dance.

Stony Brook, Dylan Pallonetti, Fr., A It’s hard to believe he’s just a redshirt freshman. The best offensive player in the conference has 34 goals and 19 assists to lead a blistering Stony Brook offense in which any player on any given day can be the star.

final- 10-7 VT

Is it just me, or was that the worst postseason performance I've seen from an SB team in years?

I didn't call the game because we had the women's game on from LaValle. The women got caught napping in the first but turned it around from there.

I did not see the call on Pickel because I was reading scores on a break, was it legit? It seemed the Seawolves were afraid to take the ball to the net from there.

Pallonetti and VanGinhoven took a lot of shots, hardly any from less than 10 yards out. Cornell was great in goal for Vermont but was he really challenged that much in the second half? No traffic in front of the net at all. Pallonetti just hung out on the perimeter. Not happy with the offense at all. The only way to beat a hot goalie is to get in his face.

I'm hard on Pallonetti but it's his team from here on out. He has to learn when to take things into his own hands.

Three straight games SB was taken out of their game. They were all close but the Seawolves never controlled it. All that scoring talent and the season ends in embarrassing fashion. Gilardi will lose some guys but there will be a lot of lessons learned.

not the worst, but bad.  defense/goalie was on fire, until the 2min unreleasable (which btw, looked flagrant).

this team may have peaked in march.  shooting and shot selection got worse, as did faceoffs, as the season went by.  we ran into more and more great goalies.  we need more 2 handed attack/mids.

hard to believe this team was #12 a week ago- and- had they turned just one of those OT games, would've been top ten.

i think the next question is how many of the "seniors" who have an extra year may come back, dont know.  certainly disappointing but there's next year!

The start of last year and this year made me think Gilardi was really the future. Now he looks more like the new Nagle.
