And we can further cloud the discussion here. McDonald admits there have been NCAA schools that have toyed with the idea of him playing both sports. The Delta Optmist listed the schools as Delaware and Stony Brook in a feature story earlier this season.

Stony Brook, for instance, wraps its football schedule in November. Its first field lacrosse game would be sometime in February.

McDonald admits the premise of being on two teams is “appealing,” but also contends that “it would be a lot,” at the university level.

McDonald says he’ll likely decide on where he’s going to attend university in December, after the football season is completed. For now, the focus will be on getting the Sun Devils on a Subway Bowl playoff run at the very least.

A Long Islander who perpetually plays with an edge, Derby impressed at July's Epoch IL Committed Academy before beginning with Syracuse. He has an excellent stick, doing his best work off the ground and when throwing hard takeaway checks. As a somewhat undersized D guy, he's able to make up for it with his tenacity. Derby will now head to Stony Brook for the spring, giving the Seawolves another talented local product. It also likely ends a long string of potential destinations for his lacrosse career: Derby verbally committed to Army in July of 2016, switched to Dartmouth and ended up at 'Cuse (the two commitment dates are unknown). He also started his career at St. Anthony's, standing out early in the recruiting process at a number of tournaments with LI Express.
