Licata has spent time on the club level with the Rebels Lacrosse Club as their director of training/recruiting. In that role, he was responsible for building relationships with families, players, and other lacrosse organizations. In addition, he would serve as a liaison between athletes and college programs, as well as initiate player development and on field IQ growth through innovative skills training.

It's not worth starting a new thread (all things lacrosse are firmly in the responsible hands of CoB), but all my SBU hopes for the 2022/2023 school year are in mens lax. Hoping for a break through year here.

Cassese Embraces New Challenge
https://virginiasports.com/news/2023/07/05/cassese-ready-to-take-on-new-challenge/

UVA has “always been a place I’ve held in high regard,” Cassese said, “and now you add Lars Tiffany into the mix. Lars is a great friend and a mentor. He gave me my first job in coaching, which I will be forever be grateful for, at Stony Brook University, and we’ve just had an unbelievable relationship for 20 years. So the opportunity to reunite with Lars was a huge key to making the move in general.”

Tiffany has been head coach at three schools: Stony Brook, Brown and UVA. After taking the job at Stony Brook in the summer of 2004, he began assembling a staff, and Cassese’s name came up. A 2003 graduate of Duke, Cassese is from Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., about five miles from the Stony Brook campus.

Their first conversation won over Tiffany. “You’re instantly impressed with a maturity, a humility, and there’s a fun energy about Kevin.”

Space was limited for the Stony Brook lacrosse staff, and Cassese was stuck “in a broom closet,” Tiffany said. “You hear about these offices where you can’t sit at your seat and open and close the door; he had one of those. I think it was about 40 square feet. It was laughable what we squished him into. But I learned how much he knows about the game, even as a young coach at that point, and had a wonderful year with him.”

Lacrosse reaches 'big milestone' with inclusion in 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles

Stony Brook women’s coach and U.S. women’s national team assistant coach Joe Spallina is “definitely interested” in being a part of the Games, with the women or men.

Spallina has three sons on the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team, including Joey, the reigning ACC Freshman of the Year. He said that Joey’s career trajectory should have him “in the prime of his career” by the 2028 Olympics. His daughter, Alexa, is one of the nation’s top recruits in the class of 2025 and is committed to Syracuse women’s lacrosse.

“When you talk about down the road, multiple Olympics away, that’s where this moment in time is going to really resonate,” Stony Brook men’s coach Anthony Gilardi said.

Spallina credited World Lacrosse for developing an approved version of play, saying the current field versions would not be endorsed by the IOC. Tierney approves of the format as well, saying sixes will “re-spark” backyards, beaches and parks.

“Long Island takes great pride in lacrosse, and it is the hotbed,” Spallina said. “So based on that, I think for this sport to then be able to help create hotbeds in other areas, this is an important step for that.”

REES AND OHLMILLER – LACROSSE’S POWER COUPLE
https://www.nll.com/news/rees-and-ohlmiller-lacrosses-power-couple/

Quote
Rees and Ohlmiller were good friends while they both attended Stony Brook University – it was common for the men’s and women’s teams to hang out – but they never dated. It wasn’t until the summer of 2021, at a PLL game on Long Island, that they began to take their friendship to the next level.

Rees, a Port Coquitlam, BC native, plays for the Rochester Knighthawks, the PLL’s Waterdogs and Team Canada, where he helped his country win silver at the 2023 World Men’s Lacrosse Championship. He attended Stony Brook from 2016-2019, starring for the Seawolves men’s lacrosse team.

Kylie Ohlmiller, is from Islip, New York. She plays in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse League (pro women’s lacrosse) and for Team USA. Ohlmiller’s time at Stony Brook overlapped with Rees for three years, from 2016 to 2019. While there, she set NCAA records with 246 career assists and 498 points. Playing in the AUPLL, Ohlmiller led the league in points in 2021 with 48 and was third in points in 2023 with 29.

“We both play professional lacrosse, and we both play international lacrosse, but that kind of looks different for both of us,” Ohlmiller said. “I think that’s very interesting and unique, so our schedules don’t match up too much. [Our careers] definitely keep us busy. There’s lots of training, so we try to train together. That’s a lot of our time together if we have busy days – we’ll meet up at the gym together.”

For the next three quarters of the year, both Rees and Ohlmiller are targeting one of the biggest events of their lacrosse careers. They are both preparing to make their final national team rosters at the 2024 World Box Lacrosse Championships set for September 20th-29th in Utica, New York, which is only about a two-hour drive from where they live.
