SBU Football Coaching Staff
« on: January 15, 2016, 04:58:35 pm »
Losing Coach Behrman is not a good thing; he really wanted to use a balance offence & i was hopeful w the new line coach they could establish this in 2016.

It's hard enough trying to change a program that is so heavy w the run offence & now we half to look for a new OC that hopefully can help this offence.

I believe a read a stat that SBU was almost last in past efficiency & total passing yardage per game.

Change is not a bad thing, ddmd. I don't view this as a "bad thing", I view it as a good thing. Our ground and pound style isn't working in the CAA neither is running up the gut 60% of the time. What SB needs to do now is find a OC who has strong ties to the FBS and believes in a balance offense. Something SB is NOT!!! We need a coach who has experience in the deep threat as well as using our Tight Ends and Full Backs as receivers, on occasion.. We also need a OC who has strong skills into developing our Quarterbacks..

Finding the right OC will be a huge challenge for SB, but I have a lot of faith in Mr. Heilbron that he will bring in the right person for the job. I say Mr. Heilbron and not Coach P for a reason. Remember, coach P job is still on the line if we don't go back to our winning ways this season.. This could be the driving force why coach Behram left for union college. But I dont know that for a fact, just my opinion...

Finding a good OC going into spring ball that has experience at this level will be tough; SBU is limited on finacial funds to bring a talented coach in. I am hopeful that their insight is not to try to keep running the same offense.

This will not work in the CAA

The reason SBU was able to get a verbal commit from QB Ben Holmes was that they planned to change the offense to utilize his talents and as of now he hasn't officially signed his LOI so getting a new OC has recruiting implications

I'm not surprised that Behrman left because I'm sure he has always wanted to be a head coach so now if he does well at a DIII Program better jobs will come his way

You're correct Campi47, short term but for the long haul, it's a good thing.I know you and some others on this Forum disagree with me but, I think coach P needs to go as well, again, I'm not talking about winning games Tomorrow I'm talking about the long term success of this program. With Coach P still at the driver's seat, SB won't improve on Offenses regardless who's the O coach because of coach P narcissistic, stubborn, Napoleon way of play calling.. I call a spade a spade, just how I see things!!!!!!!

I never said I agree with Coach P's philosophy but as long as his bosses think he's doing the job they won't replace him and those are the only ones who can do that so if they somehow make the FCS playoffs in 2016 he will remain

There was something I wanted to say regarding the whole program in general and that is that the Media (Newsday) does not do a good job of covering LI Sports as there are 4 College Football Teams that play Football SBU, LIU Post, Nassau CC and Merchant Marine so none of the programs are never really put under the microscope to see how they are performing such as Coaching, talent, schedule, etc. I bet that most people on the island don't even know who are the top high school players are coming out every year. If you go to the Star ledger in NJ and there is also a website what they put up about there sports whether it be HS or College it's like night and day here. I think if more was put out there then it would be better for us as fans.

I don't even know what our attendance was for the football season and how did that compare with other CAA Teams did we reach our goals or did we flop.

Last week was the Football Convention and they did reach out to Coaches around the Country about the OC Job so they must have known that our guy was leaving

You are 100% correct campi47.. Greg Logan works for Newsday and is one of the bigger journalist on long island who covers local sports. Just yesterday I sent him a tweet telling him to come back to Stony Brook and start covering our sports programs.. If St John's happens to be having a Basketball game the same day as SB, he covers them never us. On occasions you will see him on the floor reporting on our Basketball and up in the box for Football. Tom Rock is the other Journalist for Newsday and he will on occasion cover SB, but yeah, we need more media exposure on L. I.

News 12 will do a 15 second clip of a SB game but they rather spend most of the time with High School sports.. I really dont know what to do or say about increasing Media exposure for SB.. My guess is it all comes down to Dollars and Cents!!!!!!

Sean needs to contact the Media for February 03 National Singing Day for Football Players so that they cover the SBU Event

Behrman was a finalist for the Central Conn HC opening last year.  so this is not the first time that he has been pursuing a HC position.  probably the best for him to get out now on his own terms.  If P is fired after next season, the whole coaching staff would be in jeopardy.  and it might be hard to find a good position on short notice.
