SBU Football 2017
« on: November 21, 2016, 04:11:23 pm »
Now is the time to make the changes to the offensive game planning & coaching if needed to bring a winning program to SBU in 2017.

They have lived & died by putting it all on the defense; now is the time to make the changes needed & encompass it in the game planning for winter & spring ball. You cannot put it all on a non experience QB; that's asking way to much from that player & you half to have a back up plan at QB.

This team has good players on both sides of the ball it's how you use them in the game plan that will make the different. To many of players were not used well in the offensive game planning & it showed this year & it was nice to see #33 finally get into the running game.

This team needs to use more players in the short passing  game, RB. TE. SB.

We need to strength the OL  & have a strong 2nd string due to injury throughout the year. this will come down to scouting & offering the right scholarship to players that will make this happen... this will be totally on the coaching staff.  Bringing in 1 year wonders has not worked out well in the last three years; build from within & scout players well before offering.

With winning comes more marketing $$ & more sponsorship money...... it goes hand in hand.

im not as down on the coaching staff as most of the other forum members here... but its obvious that something needs to change.

think back to 2004 during the fiore era.  things were very different.  SB was a different place.  the athletic dept was still growing its bones; it had just joined most sports into Div I, it was staggered across multiple conferences, facilities were just installed, etc.  we've come a long way and also so has the sport of football.  its different now.

either way I trust the administration will steer us right.  it's not all about winning, despite what some pundits say... its more than that.  GO SB

You half to be competitive & I do agree that winning not everything; but you can't have a program that is 119-221 teams on offensive stats.

There are issue that half to be seriously resolved & it's not just a QB issue.

The team news a new direction on play calling & yes i do like a strong run game also..

The only way Coach P is gone is if the President, AD or the Big Boosters want him gone and at this time I don't see that happening

The play calling was spit for the 2016 season by Coach P and the QB/OC Coach

They already have 5 very good players committed for the 2017 Class and they have some excellent recruits that they are pursuing right now so as long as the recruits keep coming they will stay with Coach P however with about 25 juniors returning for next year plus a real good sophomore and freshmen Class coming back I doubt there will be a coaching change at the top

By the way the job that the Lyle DC turned down last year was the DC at the University of Hawaii

Lyle & his family must be committed to LI; that's a nice job he turned down with significant more more....

I love going to games & i just don't want to see another season like 2016 on play calling; i had several coaches asked me why SBU didn't use certain players & all i could do was put my hands up in the air...

We have some really good players on this team & having more depth next year will help...

I assume coach P returns  and   a set of excuses will pop up in Nov 2017  why we are 5-6 or worse again ..  Four years of being mediocre is unacceptable.

Just read the article about the O coordinator & O offensive Line coach being together a second year & making a differences & installing these new explosive  plays. Gentlemen & ladies they ran 15 plays on the average this year & heard they have a play book of 75 plays currently.

To read this from the AD i was surprised; it sounded more like a scripted article from a head coach.

Nothing ill change unless the current leadership on leading the offensive program is changed.; we have the players & now it is time to install a program that will work with the players we have on the field.

This program has the worst short yardage passing game in the CAA; this must change. When it does it will help open the long ball & the running game.

This is the last quote i will make this year.....

Actions speak louder then words.....

I agree 100% SBU fan. SH is aware of this issue and I am sure if he had the funds in place to make a coaching change he would. But he cant. SB can't afford to take another lose by letting coach P go early. They took a big hit with Fiore a few years back..
I hate to say it but, I see 2 more years with coach P..

With the staff  staying the same I don't see any real improvement for 2017 .   Maybe we can afford to let Coach P go  after 2017 and start fresh from he top down.

Our concerns about the Coaching Staff is not hurting recruiting as SBU got a verbal commitment last night from one of the best OL/DL on LI in Kyle Nunez of East Islip 6'3 310 was just named to the 2016 ALL-Long Island Team

According to 247 sports, SBU just got a commitment from Devan Lawson.  He's a 3-star TE from Spring Valley, NY who had a bunch of offers--including Boston College, Albany, Army, Buffalo and UNH!!  Looks like the coaches have confidence in next year's expected QB Tyquell Fields to be able to use the TE position more effectively.  This could be a really encouraging sign.

I'm not questioning talent but  decisions on game day when  we go ultra conservative .  We shall see in September 2017 .

I just came home from the SBU Awards Banquet and from what I saw and heard including from the AD it is all very positive and no concerns on the direction of the program

In total SBU now has 8 players committed for the 2017 Class and the plan is still not to bring in a QB

The Devin Lawson kid de-committed from Boston College

We have 4 senor TE returning next year & 2 have very good hands & speed; they will not use the incoming TE unless of injuries  next year on this team.. It was a good choice to make an offer at the TE position; they will  need depth & talent in 2018.

They 1st need to change the playing calling and infuse the TE, RB & SB into the short passing game to be more explosive & effective in the passing game.

It will open up the long ball & big running plays.

The team needs depth at OL & DL.
