NFL prospects?
« on: October 05, 2011, 04:11:10 pm »
Are any of the current seawolves NFL prospects? Bamiro obviously has NFL size but I imagine he's still too raw to really say. I don't think Jackolski is an NFL running back but I could see him moving to the slot and being successful if given the right opportunity. Imo Maysonet looks like he could be a running back in the national football league.

Did I leave anyone out? Is any of this accurate?

I'm struggling to see any of the seawolves as NFL prospects.  I thought Eddie Gowins had a shot before all the injuries and leaving the program, but no body right now strikes me as having that kind of future.  Lots of good players but NFL caliber??  Not so sure.

I think both Jackolski and Maysonet should have the opportunity to sign as undrafted free agents. I don't know if they can make the roster, but I think both will at least go to camps.

I see a lot of our guys as "CFL" prospects.  Brock and Maysonet are both solid RB's, but lack the measurables to be on an NFL roster.  I do think they have a legit shot to make a living playing pro ball (maybe Arena, maybe CFL)
Basketball & Football season ticket holder since 2009...

I survived the Coastal Carolina game and all I got was mild hypothermia and a Seawolf win!

I don't want to be blindly optimistic but I think they'll get their chance with the NFL. They are both a slightly undersized, but they have enough size for NFL. Brock Jackolski ran a 4.3 in high school. If he can still run a 4.3 with the added muscle since high school (he's an honest 195lbs+), I think he has a shot in the NFL as a slot reciever or 3rd down back. I agree that they have better chances in the arena or CFL, but I'd be surprised if they don't get invited to NFL camps.

Dont overlook Skiffington after next season.    He has a great leg  and a 45 yard  range  for FG's.

Does anybody know if Brock or anybody else was attending any of the Regional combines that the NFL is holding?

Skiffington is underated.  He has  a  solid  leg with a 45 yard range that isNFL range .   Very few kickers are  very accurate  beyond 45 yards although some do hit the 48 and 49 yard  range at times.

I don't anything about kickers. For some reason my feeling on skiffington is that he is very accurate, but doesn't have great range. I don't know why i think that though.

I remember hearing one of the coaches after the season talking about setting a schedule for Brock with regards to training and finding the right pro day but having heard anything since. Brock is a pretty incredible athlete, and I bet he could put up some sick numbers in a combine. Priore had Brock play in our nickel package in the Liberty, Albany, and Sam Houston games. Any chance that was so NFL teams could have video of him playing corner? Corner might be his most natural position.

I agree, I think Brock will have some pretty legit numbers when he tests.  I also think his versatility will be a huge asset, after leading Hofstra in rushing as a true Freshman he started at Cornerback as a Sophmore.  Some NFL coaches really value that type of glexibility...i.e Bellichick.....

Brock is a marginal NFL prospect. I expect him to have more success than any before, but I'd rather him as a CFL star rather than an NFL backup.

That said, our REAL NFL prospect is Marcus Coker. A legitimate prototypical RB, I see Coker flourishing at SBU in our run-first offense, garnishing the looks of several NFL programs in the draft.

A breakout by Adrian Coxson would also qualify him for NFL consideration.

For the NFL, it's all about athleticism and size. FCS players don't lack skill, they lack some of the prototypical builds seen at the higher level.

I still think Brock could be a good NFL player if he ends up in the right offense (read the Patriots). He matches up very well with regards to size and athleticism with Welker, Woodhead, and Branch. I think Jackolski needs to hope he gets an invite to Patriots camp because Belichick and Brady have shown they can use guys like him very effectively.

Coker was great get for Stony Brook not only because he's an unbelievable talent at the FCS, but also because he's going to draw a lot of NFL attention to the program which will help the program even more with recruiting and getting our current players NFL looks. It seems the consensus from everyone is that Coxson is an NFL talent as well. It's just a matter of him staying healthy and focused.

I would have to think that Brock would much rather make a roster of any NFL team than play for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders or some other CFL teams.....I have no delusions of him getting drafted, just think if he gets into the right camp he can turn some heads and have a shot to make a team.  Not comparing him to Coker, who will be fun to watch for the next few years, but to me rooting for the local guy who i have been watching play for 6-7 years and who happens to be extremely talented is much more intriguing......

I totally agree that he is capable of turning heads. He probably could have started at rb, wr, cb, s, and I think even at the rover linebacker for Stony Brook. He's also very young to have finished his college eligibility as he will be 21 if when he gets invited to camps in August. For comparison Welker was 23 when was picked up by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent. Brock is almost a victim of his talent because he was too good to redshirt when he arrived at Hofstra despite being so young for his age and was talented enough to play RB even though it's probably not his best fit (unless he can add 10-15 lbs which I really don't think is out of question considering he's still young and will be able to work on getting into football shape full time). It'll be interesting because he's definitely an unbelievable athlete.
