That's the big down side the on campus arena and seating capacity .  Hockey may stay club level for a very long time.

Didn't know about the on campus arena requirement. No wonder director told Hammer to donate $60m lol

Yes. A school must have a arena on campus to be eligible for Div1 in hockey..

I doubt SB will ever have a rink on campus. Unless some really rich donor comes up with some serious $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hammer I asked the question about adding Field Hockey and Wrestling a bunch of time and was told that the only way they will add any teams is at the Club Level but not as a Varsity Sport.

I also asked about getting other Academic Programs that are more attracted to Athletes and that won't happen unless a wealthy individual wants to come in and pay to fund such a program such as; Education, Business School (better than what they offer now)

That's a shame. I understand it is expensive to run a sports program due to the cost associated with scholarships, equipment, coaches salaries, travel etc... But women's field hockey is popular on long island and fans would show up to watch. UA has field hockey and they are quite competitive, too.....

I know the school would need to add a women's sport in order to add a men's sport to the program, but field hockey might be the worst spectator sport on the planet with a stoppage in play every few seconds - even at the highest level of college .  Also, field hockey is extremely regional, where the depth south, majority of the west coast, and the majority of the midwest don't even play the sport.

Stony Brook wants nothing to do with field hockey - thank God! 😄

Stony Brook is "looking" into field hockey. The AD might as well just said "hell no"

ReallY?????. That's all this conversation was about from the start. Just talks about women's field hockey. Not actually implementing it. I still think Ice hockey is the way to go..

I think the best way forward for SBU athletics is to just get better and improving at what we currently have rather than splitting money into new sports like field hockey or ice hockey. Is ice hockey in my wish list?.. sure. But realistically the best way forward is trying to become a force in the mid-major basketball so that we are at the top of AE every year...  my role model is Davidson who dominated the SoCon for so long and making it to the NCAA tournament almost every year. And making SB football a destination in Long Island, and giving  NYC and LI people a much cheaper alternative to pro-football. We will never ever replace pro football in NY and that's not a bad thing.. Giants/Jets tickets are exorbitantly expensive. SB could provide a cheap entertaining alternative to scratch that "stadium football" itch.
