The Sam fans down here in Texas are also REALLY hoping this game gets set in stone. Great matchup for both teams and the FCS needs more OOC games like this.

If you haven't done so, go check out our forum http://www.katfans.com/

Thanks for stopping by. This will be a great game  if it comes off a  and a great way to start the season.   We never had a team from Texas come to  Long  Island  for football.

I totally agree. I would LOVE to schedule a home and home with Sam Houston.

I would go as far to say a home and home series with SHS would help out with recruiting in Texas.  That alone is a pretty big positive.

Usually the folks in our AD are pretty quick to debunk any rumors circulating on KF.com that hold ZERO credence, so I would assume these talks are resulting in positive things for both schools.

Again, hope it happens.

Im sure it will be  fan draw us and likely the same for the Kats  when we go down there.  Watched the game on my computer  two years ago  nice stadium and good crowd on hand to support  the home town team.

Sam Houston State still looking for an Aug 31 game, could be on the road against SB?

Sam Houston State sets 2013 schedule, seeks one more game
Huntsville, TX (Sports Network) - Sam Houston State football will host Eastern Washington as one of its six home games and visit Texas A&M in its 2013 schedule that was announced on Monday.

The Sept. 28 game against Eastern Washington at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium matches two teams which met in last season's FCS semifinals. Sam Houston won, 45-42.

The Bearkats also will play Texas A&M for the second straight season on Sept. 7. The Aggies won last year's game, 47-28.

The A&M game could be Sam Houston's season opener, but coach Willie Fritz and athletic director Bobby Williams are seeking to add a 12th game to the schedule, presumably one week earlier on Aug. 31.

The other home games are against Texas Southern (Sept. 14) and Incarnate Word (Sept. 21) in non-conference action, and Lamar (Oct. 12, Homecoming), Northwestern State (Nov. 26) and Nicholls (Nov. 9) within the Southland Conference.

Sam Houston State will play Stephen F. Austin in the 88th "Battle of the Piney Woods" at Houston's Reliant Stadium on Nov. 2. The past three years, the annual rivalry has drawn crowds of more than 25,000 fans to the home of the Houston Texans.

Other road games are against Southland rivals McNeese State (Oct. 19), Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 16) and Central Arkansas (Nov. 23).

The Bearkats have finished as the FCS runner-up in each of the past two seasons.

Word we got was your admin didn't want to return the favor in Texas for 2014 so the talks broke down. Again, just rumor.

That would be a disappointment if fiore decided against that. especially when SHSU has proven to be a great team the past couple of years. It would only be fair for a home and home. But if this turns out to be true, there can be a possible reason: SBU is committed towards playing 2-FBS per season and this might interfere with it. This year we had an open spot because Boston College dropped us. But I believe we have Uconn and another BEast team for 2014

UConn and Cincy, if I remember correctly.

SHSU would have been a great game though.

Fiore will do what is right for the program. He did the right thing already by agreeing to not visiting BC and now probably looking for a home game to start with. Students will be back. I am sure he will get a good home game to start the season on 8/31 with a packed stadium!!!

Playing two FBS teams in 2014 would be great, but.... lets take a bird in the hand right now, and sign a deal with SH State for a home and home series.  this approach would get us a great season opening home game against a great opponent.  As we have just seen with BC, those FBS teams will drop FCS teams at the drop of a hat.  so there is no guarantee that we will be able to retain the UConn and Cincy games for 2014.  just look at how quickly we lost the BC game...  Now, if we were contemplating setting up a home/home series with a lower-tier FCS school, then I'd say "no way".  but obviously, SH State is a very legit opponent.  We should go for it and do the deal for a home/home 2014 anb 2014 match up with the Bear Kats.

Agreed, book the Sam Houston series right now. Again not a fan of 2 FBS gms.
