Hammer, think of it this way-- by playing two FBS games instead of one, we generally double our chances of picking up an FBS win. There's a certain amount of prestige that goes along with a win over an FBS program. Also, recruits LIKE the idea of playing at two big-time venues instead of only one. And then there's the extra money....

Playing FBS schools adds excitement to our schedule. They are more known by everyone and we happen to upset one of them it would be huge for SBU. I don't mind the two FBS schools in the schedule. That's how you grow your brand and balance the budget simultaneously,

Yea but you give up a home game in order to play 2 FBS gms. I would trade a home gm for an FBS gm anytime. I agree with the big 10 getting rid of FCS gms.

I'm amazed that other conferences haven't done that already. FBS games are a necessity at the moment, and considering the massive steps the program has taken in the last few years, I'm going to give Fiore/Priore benefit of the doubt.  They've made some decisions I didn't exactly love, but in the end it worked out rather well (example: Pace & Colgate last year, with two mid-season FBS games and no bye week).

All that said, I wouldn't be opposed to an all FCS schedule.

Looks like you can forget about seeing BC:

Quote
Villanova was originally slated to face ACC newcomer Pittsburgh in the season opener, but the conference wanted to stage its Labor Day Monday game between Pittsburgh and Florida State to fulfill its TV obligations under the conference's new media rights contracts with ESPN. The ACC reportedly stepped in to help Pittsburgh and Florida State rearrange their schedules, as well as replacing CAA newcomer Stony Brook with Villanova on the Eagles' 2013 schedule.

based on this quote from Magic Man, I suspect that the ACC gave SB some cash to give up the game with BC.   I doubt SB did that switch without getting some $$ out of the ACC or BC

that was a great game, thanks for the reminder.  one blown coverage by our D, one missed TD pass by Essington... we were so close to knocking those guys off.

That would be awesome .. I think we would have a harder  time beating SH then BC.. Starting off the season against tough opponent is  good .. Don't want to have 2 or 3 wins against Cupcake teams out of your conference just to come back and get blown out by a conference game!! Sam Houston State would be perfect match-up  for us to start the season off, at home !!!!!

Yesterday Greg Logan had a twitter argument with the guy behind bcinterruption.com @bcinterruption and he was really angry at Logan for suggesting that SHSU was better than BC last year. You should go to Logan's account and read they argument. I love Logan.. he seems to be genuinely passionate about SB Athletics! So glad he is writing for us on Newsday.

Rumor is that we are trying to work out Home-Home 2013@SBU 2014@SHSU. I hope Fiore can get it done. I would be so excited. Although I am not sure if we would be able to fill out the stadium. SBU students and LI locals are not familier with Sam Houston to generate buzz and excitement.

Sam Houston WAS better than BC last year. Sagarin had SH 50 spots ahead of BC. BC's RPI was 10 spots higher, but I like Sagarin.

Sam Houston State was without a doubt a  better football team then BC was in 2012/13 season. I would go even further then that. SH could beat 50% of FBS teams currently.  They have Experience, size, and coach Willie Fritz has a lot of experience . He reminds me of Priore in many ways. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the next FCS team to move up !!!!

It looks as if Priore wanted out with BC because of the 4 away games. Priore cares more about his players and fans the $$$, obviously . It's my understanding, BC agreed to Priore's request and did not have to pay $$$$ to SB, WOW!!!.. I think Priore is reading this Forum because it sounds like the majority of the Forum did not agree to the 4 away games, and priore took action !!

Wow. I read some of the Tweets from Logan and bcinterruption. Logan won that round and he really sounds like he's passionate with SB Athletics .. Nice to have a supporter from Newsday on SB side because every little bit of publicity goes a long way....
