Future Football Schedules
« on: October 31, 2011, 10:13:25 am »
I know we're heading into November with a possible Big South Championship on the line so this isn't the best time to be looking into future seasons, but I think we should have a thread keeping track of future opponents.

2012 (I know I'm missing an FBS game. Marshall? We will most likely pay another d2 for a home game. For the last game I would like to schedule a home and away series with UNH, but would very much like to have any CAA team on the schedule. This is just wishful thinking though)

I hope we can quit playing DII teams. Its time to schedule DI the whole season. Teams that people have heard of. I know we want the extra home game. But maybe we can get an extra home-away series instead of playing a DII team like St.Anselm

Also, I really like the Central Connecticut game. We should schedule more local teams (albany, UNH, Maine, Monmouth, etc) like that and continue the two FBS per season.

The BC game is awesome. I will travel up to Boston to see that one for sure. Tough team

Like the Army game. Its a game we can drive up to watch.

On other boards  Colgate will visit  StonyBrook in 2012 and we will travel  to Colgate in 2013. Also  Brown will return to StonyBrook in 2013.

I love the brown series.  It's always a really close matchup between our schools, and its given us some of the most exciting games I've ever seen here.  I also like the CCSU series geographically, but the last time we played them, it was just a slaughter.

Both of these schools have also brought good crowds and marching bands.  I'd love to see both series continue.

Hopefully no D-2 after such a great season. We need a stronger schedule if we want to be taken seriously this upcoming season. A St.Anselm type team wont do...

This should be the last year of filling in the Hofstra slot, so moving forward our schedule should get better.

I like what I see for 2012.  The 'Cuse and Army games are your typical FBS games.  They are big names, look great on paper, aren't exactly great teams, but should beat us.  If we can keep it close it's awesome.  If we can sneak a win, thats spectacular.

Colgate, Pace, and CCSU are very winnable games, and the conference schedule is standard.

That gives us 9 very winnable games out of 11.  Given everything, I still believe that to get in the playoffs we either need to win the conference, or if we lose a game in conference, we'd need to beat one of the FBS teams to get an at-large berth.  Going to be another fun year!

Syracuse and Army are two good FBS teams to schedule specially cuz they are higher chances of them being on TV.  Thats a smart move by Stony Brook. I'm sure that the Cuse game should be broadcasted at least regionally most likely on SNY. The Army game also has chances of being carried on TV, maybe MSG or MSG+ considering the recent success of Stony Brook football and the popularity of Army football. Both games can be attended by our fan base in more significant numbers than if it was at Florida (USF) or Texas (UTEP). Good move by Stony Brook.

In my eyes, the only blemish is the Pace game. We need to schedule Division I all games if we want to be taken serious nationally. The Big South in general needs a stronger schedule and scheduling teams like Pace doesn't help. Despite me disliking the Pace, I will have to say that I prefer that over a team like St.Anselm. Pace is local, so that helps. Pace is widely known in the metro area and may drag a few extra fans into the game considering the St.Anselm game was less than half full...who that hell knows St.Anselm?

Hopefully by 2013 we can have a all-Division I schedule, that'll be a huge move and would continue the upward trajectory of SB Football. Stony Brook football is looking bright and its on a good path. Go Seawolves
