Holy Crap! What a nail biter. Much too close for comfort, but they live to play another day. What's up with the four sacks? The O line didn't protect the QB very well.

Not our best showing but we live for another week. Time to worry about SHS. I'm proud of this team. Those last second were intense but they did the job. This a really good team here. We were able to stage a comeback dispite a poor showing throughout much of the game. the team didn't play like in the previous eight games. It was ugly, but got the W

Not to take anything away from Albany, I was definitely impressed by them, but did anyone else get the feeling that our guys had a hard time getting up for Albany after the big win last yesterday?

I also think people are making a bit too much about the scholarship difference between Stony Brook and Albany. Yes the difference between 36 and 63 is huge, but Stony Brook is redshirting something like 25-30 players this year. Stony Brook has a lot of scholarships not dressing this season. We're finally getting to the point where our scholarships allow us to have better depth and more mature athletes, but it's still a work in progress. It's also lame of Albany fans to constantly bring it up when they wouldn't if they were playing Maine.

My take from the stands...

UA's touchdowns basically came from 2 gimmick half-back passes, a blocked punt, and a touchdown pass with 11 seconds to go in the half. Other than the last drive, they didn't really have a sustained offense. Points are points, and you take them any way you can get them.

UA's defense was very good. They played the run extremely well, and if it wasn't for the fact that they were on the field for 40+ minutes, they would've been fine.

The touchdown drives from SBU were all after very quick UA drives. The defense wasn't on the sidelines long enough to grab a gatorade, let alone make adjustments.

End result, the Danes should have no reason to hang their heads. They played a tremendous game, and while you don't want to hang this loss on any one person, it basically comes down to some pretty poor play calling in the second half. The QB made a bad decision, granted, but at the end of the day, he never should have been in that spot in the first place.

As for the scholarship difference, a lot of people forget about "grant in aid" and other non-scholarship options that the coaches can use to recruit.

I do think that this was a tough one for the boys to get up for.  Not making an excuse, but the Liberty game was a huge emotional draw, and any time you get passed that, it's difficult.

The O-line was a little unprepared for the types of blitzes and stunts they ran.  They did a few things that were more like punt rushes then pass blitzes, and that led to some pressure.  Also, at least two of the sacks came from Essington's first read being covered, then just eating the ball.

Loved the heart our guys showed, they kept pushing, and in the end it worked out!

I was thinking the SAME exact thing- UA hadnt really scored straight up; it was trick plays, special teams, SB shanked a FG, blew an early 4th down (eschewed a FG), etc.  But yes, points are points and it doesnt matter how you score them.  Ill never take credit away from a team, especially one that played as hard as UA.

I was impressed with UA's defense, of course after seeing SB play offense all year.  I did notice Essington was hurried a few times, hit a few times.  They really shut down that run game early.  The line didnt open up lanes until late in the game.

Anyone else notice this game was full of bootlegs and hitch passes?  I havent seen UA play in a few years, but both teams seemed to call these plays.

One more thing- and this might be stretching it- but by week 3 SB was playing without its starting QB and arguably its star RB (transferred).  Great depth to put together a winner after that.

And here's a question- WHAT was UA thinking calling a pass on 2nd and goal with a minute left?  They had SB on the ropes, were driving a terrific run game, and have that fullback-sized RB who couldve easily punched it in from 1.  All i could think was wow SB needs a pass play here so they can intercept it, otherwise, theyre never gonna win this.  Puzzling.

i'm not seeing enough pride here from what we've accomplished. We gotta be proud of the job being done here at the brook. its amazing to be able to say that we are a second round team. Six-seven years ago, this was only a dream. today we are a competitive FCS team!!!!!

For all of those that doubted the Big South Conference in the CS forum saying that we will not go deep at all in the playoffs. Here we are standing after the first round. It was a close one but We got it at the end. Facing number 1 next week. It will be huge. Its no easy having a nine win streak going through the playoffs

I love what SBU did yesterday, and I can't wait for Saturday.  Sam Houston is a very good program, but it's the playoffs, and you never know...

On a side note, a few Big South records were broken yesterday:
Most single season rushing yards (Maysonet)
Most single season total yards (Jackolski)
Most consecutive wins (9)
Most playoff wins (1)

Gotta love it!

Very true, Jag.  This aint your daddy's older brother's SBU.   8)

These guys took a 24-10 lead on a 1A team (UTEP) only to lose in OT.  Ever think SB would play before 28k fans?

Someone last week told me they couldnt get fans to the home games.  Yet they are selling out.  Ever think this would happen at SB:
