2011: Game 12 - NCAA FCS Tournament First Round- SBU vs Albany
« on: November 20, 2011, 10:04:13 am »
Im watching the selection show, and as predicted by some on the Liberty thread, SB draws Albany.  Albany was ranked in the top 15 this year (Liberty was right there too) and i suppose SB will move up.  These two teams havent played in a few seasons.

Winner plays #1 Sam Houston State.

I think it's a fun matchup. We need to get everyone out to this game, though. Albany is going to travel well.

Another good  game  but very winnable!   Coach Ford  vs. his protege and former player .

This is hilarious to me. The America East has FOUR teams in the FCS playoffs. Our conference composes 20% of the entire playoff field:

Stony Brook
Albany
Maine
New Hampshire

Gotta think that someone in the America East commissioner's office knows about this and is giving himself a massive #facepalm

It is- youre right.  With all the recent moves, the non-football AE is a frankenstein of NEC, Big South, and now Colonial teams.

I heard SB put in a bid to host the game- any word on where it will be?

My official game prediction:

Stony Brook holds UA to 100 yards rushing, most of which will come from two or three big gains, which will put a lot of pressure on the senior QB Di Lella. Di Lella will answer and throw for a slew of yards (around 300), but will also turn the ball a couple times as uncharactistic as that might seem. Every quarterback that has put up great passing numbers against us has also turned the ball over several times. Stony Brook allowed 400 yards passing against Lafayette, but also caused 5 turnovers in their passing game.

Albany gets stops early on D against Stony Brook, but as Stony Brook wears out the Albany D and Priore goes threw his different formations, Brock and Miguel will start to find holes and make big plays. Look for Norrell, Brevi, and Gush to have big games. They are talented receivers, and with safeties in the box to stop the run and back-up corners in coverage (I believe their two starting cornebacks are hurt), I don't think Albany will be able to contain them. I think the game will play out a lot like Presbyterian did at Stony Brook-around 200 yards rushing with a big day from Essington.

Albany will have to keep with Stony Brook scoring, and I don't think they'll be able to.

They haven't announced a time yet, but ESPN3 only has two timeslots for 2PM and one time slot for 3PM.  So it will most likely be an afternoon game

Mike  Brown put up over 300 yards last night and  had probably one of the best wide receivers in FCS  Chris Sommers to throw to and couldn't get it done.  Bottom line is what is on the score board not the stat sheet.
We also took away any  real rushing threat last night also. We will  be fine next   Saturday.

I'm hoping for a very competitive game, and a sold-out crowd at LaValle like this past saturday. This is a fellow SUNY institution and hopefully we have a good turnout from Albany fans. I prefer having fans from both teams.

My prediction for the game is that Stony Brook will hit the 40+ mark once again. I guess thats not much of a prediction considering the current streak, but anyways, should be a challenge but we will come out with the W.

42-28!

There's no way Albany can be more of a challenge than Liberty, in my opinion.

Game kicks off at 2pm.

I love our chances here, but it's still the playoffs, which means any team who makes it this far has got to be talented.   We match up really well with Albany and they've got a few key players hurt.

My prediction: SBU 35 - Albany 28
Wolfie 1 - J.J. Jumper 0
