If Simpson plays, and plays at a Big Ten-level, then I'll be less concerned about the small size of the rest of the D line.

Hear me out for a second-

There's been a change in the game the past 15 years or so, moving away from the 34s and the huge 350lbs nose guards.  Now its more quick, agile DEs and DTs that press the QB.  More 52s and nickel 41s.  More of the standup DE type.  More of the hybrid OLB that steps up to the line to show blitz, and it starts to cloud the distinction between DL and LB.  Think of the NY Football Giants, perfect example.

Plus, its college football, 1AA at that, so 300lbs aint a great benchmark.  And look the Big South just doesnt get the size that you can recruit to a place like Richmond, JMU, Massachusetts, etc.  Other 1AA conferences.

And lastly, whatever we are doing with our apparently undersized d-tackles, its working.

I'll be watching and rooting.  GO SB  ;D

Have to agree with the Chairman. We were not oversized last year either with only two starters on D over 250 lbs and we did  pretty well.  If Simpson has speed and I guess he may  he could be devasting at 250-255.  I remember the Liberty game last year. Their huge nose  tackle was gassed by the 4th quarter and became a non factor on any pass rush and he goes well over 300lbs. .  Add to that  our offense that can put up tons of points even if we give up  a TD  or so we can just about outscore anyone.

Chair. It seems like you are right. Here it goes:

"...Stony Brook football coach Chuck Priore announced Wednesday that cornerback Avery Graham has transferred to the program from the University of Maryland..."

That's fabulous. Another three-star transfer on the roster. We seem to have a feeder system set up from Maryland.

I just feel bad for Maryland. Ever since the Uconn coach got there, kids have been transferring out. I don't know whats going on at College Park...

A story of Maryland under Randy Edsall. Avery Graham became the 25th outgoing transfer... good for us, terrible for MDCD

I think everyone's trying to get out of having to wear those awful flag-iforms. Though I wouldn't feel too bad for them. They added one five-star and five four-star recruits this year.

This kid was a top recruit out of high school. I expect he will play right away.

I think he looks like a pretty good get for us. I'm sure he'll get on the field.

We should still have 2 more open scholarships left. I do agree with most of you that we would be just fine with a slightly undersized line, but I'd still like to see us a bring in a true d tackle.
