The latest on Coxson:

http://www.newsday.com/sports/college/stony-brook/adrian-coxson-ready-for-fresh-start-at-stony-brook-1.3647034

He sure doesn't look like 99% of other FCS receivers. It's gonna be difficult to bring him down once he has the ball. If he gets the waiver and is in the lineup, I would not be surprised to see SBU make it to the national semifinals, at least. Even without him, anything less than winning the conference and taking a game in the playoffs would be a disappointment. Yeah yeah, I know the ball hasn't even been snapped yet, but based on the roster and coaching staff, that's what I expect to happen. Kudos to Priore for being the type of guy that convinced Coxson to play for him.

I'm  just excited about the quality level of the athletes we are signing in all sports.  When you look at womens softball, lacross , mens basketball and football we are atracting some very high level kids.  Football  should  do very well  this year which will just put more of a spotlight on StonyBrooks Athletics. Add to that our facilities and quality coaching staffs  we are in good shape.

Football is whats going to make stony Brook shine. Looking forward to a great season, atleast on paper. There is one thing that we know is true: If football goes up, everything else goes up with it.

Hopefully this team can takes us to the FCS playoffs once again and do some more damage. But this team can't get carried away either, they have to play EVERY game! I would like for this team to build a resume that would grant them an at-large berth, but there's still a long way until september...

True!  They cant get  caught up in their good press clippings before the season begins.   Have to win on the field.

This can easily be a breakout season, or a heartbreak season. It all depends how bad this team wants to get back to the playoffs. This team needs to keep their eyes on that conference championship and try to build a at-large resume just in case because its painful to be in a one-bid conference. You f*ck up in one game and you are out.

I'm excited already and there still ~six months to go...

Hopefully the NCAA grants him the waiver. I don't think he ever technically matriculated as a student at Florida, and his father was sick. With Gush, Norell, and Coxson at WR and Coker and Maysonet at RB opposing teams are really going to have to pick their poison. Our WR's will beat one on one coverage if they put their safeties in the box and Coker and Maysonet would have a field day if you don't. This is a high octane offense for FCS football.

Potential is just another way of saying the guy hasn't done anything yet.

That said, I think this offense could be very scary.  The part that nobody here has been talking about (but I know we're all thinking) is how good our offensive line is going to be.  We had 4 "2nd year guys" as starters last season, not counting Diaz (the Pitt transfer).

If Essington can improve his decision making (which by no means is terrible, just not awesome), and the pass defense/pass rush improves, a run in the playoffs is very possible.

You can't take anything for granted, but I think team could be something very special.

He's right- he's right- he's right.  We also just need BBall to get over the hump!  GO SB!  Very excited for the fall, though ill be out there for lax a lot this spring.  :D

Speaking of the pass rush, whatever happened to the four-star transfer from Maryland who sat out last year. He's not on the roster anymore. Huge guy, strange name (from Africa I think). He seemed to vanish, which I think is strange for a former four-star player.

Bummer. How does everyone feel about us not having anyone bigger than 250 lbs along our defensive line?

Masengo Kabongo is who you're thinking of.  RUMOR is that he's going to miss the season with an injury and may come back for 2013, although it's unlikely.

I don't mind the smaller D-Line, based on our "philosophy".  If we run the ball and control the clock, the quicker d-line can attack and not get worn down.  The concern obviously comes from being unable to keep our defense off the field.

Against Gardner-Webb or CSU, this won't be a problem.  Against a team like Syracuse...

That is troubling that no DL's or DE's are over 250. I didn't realize that. Out of curiosity I checked Liberty's roster. They have eight or nine DL/DE's over 250. Not sure what's up with that.

I looked at our  two deep depth chart from last season. We were not overwhelming in size last year either and held our own. I counted 3 guys at over 250 and not by much. So I think we will be ok this season. I would like to see a couple 290 to 310  type guys  as would everyone else.  But I think we have speed and a  good linebacker corps.

Saw a couple of Boosters, Pikiell and his family, and a nice scrimmage yesterday at LaValle. The sun was killing me so I only stayed there for 10-15 minutes. Simpson is not here yet, Marcus Coker is and Adrian Coxon were there I Believe (#1 and #34)

It was the first scrimmage I ever attended. Pretty cool!
