Coach P
« on: August 26, 2016, 10:51:10 am »
I don't like starting rumors but last week while I was at the last SBU Scrimmage I was talking to a couple of people very close to the program that Coach P and the University are very close to a new 5 year contract now I don't know if it's based on any particular must mile storms but the people that told me this said the announcement will come when the time is right

UGHHHHHH!! If this this the case then Heilbron was full of shi$ when he said Football was his priority sport..

I said it before and I'll say it again. If this University wants to succeed in the CAA and have plans to move up to the FBS some day, they need a new head football coach..I dont think coach P has what it takes to take this organization to the next level.. A new 5 year contract for coach P is this kiss of death for Football. I know all of his supporters are going to blast me about this but who cares. I speak the truth and I think many on this board agrees with me..

I think I've had coach P's back in the past, but I hope this isn't the case. Honestly if we don't make the playoffs this season (which I think we absolutely can do), coach P needs to go.

I like Coach Priore but no way I'd extend him right now. If he has a good year this year, then you have my blessing by all means. However, if he can't put together a competent offense 4 years into CAA play you have to ask questions about his ability to coach when not given a massive talent advantage (e.g. back in the Big South days).

The problem is that its not easy coaching in the Northeast. He's done pretty well but this should be a make or break year as far as I'm concerned for him.

Lets get to 8-3 this year  and the play offs  before we reward him with a new contract .

Seawolf97.. I love your optimism, but I believe we will finish 3-8. This year schedule is probably the toughest schedule SB has ever had .If Priore wins 5 games this season then it will be considered a winning season for him. But I dont think thats going to be the case!

giving him a contract extension before the season wraps up this year would be a huge mistake.  I have to say though, he was probably given a ultimatum by the AD to release control over the offensive coaching, hence his hiring of a true O coordinator and an O line coach.  remember, P started out as an O line guy.  so he was handling a lot of details on O line and O coordinator stuff as well as being the HC.  it was too much, and he is a control freak anyways, so I am sure the AD laid it on the line and told him to bring in support staff.  but what a joke to extend his contract without first seeing how the team performs this season.

There were a few bonehead calls last night . Going for two points instead of a kick , that trick play on a  rush to the line didn't fool anyone and running  with only a minute left and a 4 pint lead almost cost us the game  with a fumble.  I agree if we do well  this season maybe a contract extension of  three years is ok but not five .

I too thought P got too cute going for two points on the TD.  seemed like whether your are up by 5 or 6 is not much difference, so go for the sure thing and get a five point lead.  that way, if they score a TD, they are only up by two.  but then again, our shitty kicking game screwed us over early in the game.  why cant we get a legit kicker?

Going for 2 was an absolute no brainer. We were up by 4 late in q4. An EP would have only give us 5. The difference betweeen 4 & 5 at that point in game was meaningless. NDU would still need a TD for the win. But, if we got to 6 then NDU needed TD AND EP for the win.  As for the Bedell fumble late in game, we needed a first down to be able to ice the clock. Taking knee at that point would have required us to punt on 4th down.
I get that there are folks here who don't like coach P. But please at least be fair with the criticism.
Let's enjoy the win guys. Sure there are areas for improvement, but that was a must win game for us given our next two opponents and the team found a way to win late in game. That is a refreshing change over past two seasons.

The Defense won the game again. That's great but the Offense needs to start producing some serious points. At times it felt like coach P was running the entire game again with a few boneheads play calling.  Maybe he was? who knows besides the coaches. I have a feeling next week in Philadelphia is going to be real ugly.. As far giving coach P a new 5 year contract is an absolute disgrace to SB football. It would be like voting for Hillary, 4 more years of Obama...Oh, no. I am bringing up Politics on a college sports forum.. But I think you guys know what I am getting at here..

Every coach in america goes for two in that situation, that's the math. It puts you up by 6 and they would need a TD and conversion to win. When your up by 4 and the score a TD and conversion with time left then your down by 3 and could try a field goal to tie. They missed a field goal, does that make the kicker crappy. The special teams on a whole was much improved, that's how they won the game. Those two beautiful punts inside the five made a difference. I don't agree with contract extensions during the season, they should wait and see how it plays out. But seriously can't some of you enjoy a nice win over a ranked opponent. That was a good team with a good defense. SB defense is the strength of the team and showed it. I'm not a Carbone fan but you could see that he put the time in to improve and he did. It seems like some of you want them to lose so they get a new coach, that's ridiculous. That team last night is improved and that should make you happy. They have a lot more talent on offense than last yr. As far as Temple goes, nobody expects a win, its a money grab game. Temple was a few plays away from a major bowl last yr. There is nothing wrong with tipping your hat to ND and saying SB won a tough game that most of you expected them lose. Cheer up and enjoy the win. Let the AD hand out contracts.

Well said Chrissy. You are 100% correct on all points.

come on Chrissy, that kicker missed a ton of kicks last year and has continued with the same streak right out of the gate this year.  he looks great in warm ups, then cant kick to save his life in a game.

I seem to recall last year, you came out telling us how great Carbone was, at least in the eyes of the coaching staff, and that's why he got some starts and shared time with Bednarski at QB last season.  Looks like we have all seen his limitations now.  Heck at least he did not throw any picks, and has learned to hang in the pocket and look for an open receiver instead of trying to scramble like last season.  he is improving , but he will not be GREAT.

I think most of us expected that we would 0-3 after the 1st 3 games and the fact that we won the 1st one is a good thing

In money grab games we haven't done to badly I was at the Toledo game and they are better than Temple and we were in it. For whatever reason Coach P. gets the players up for those types of games now I'm not expecting a win but I really expect them to play them tough
