Glad the QBs look good. I suspect whoever wins the job will be a clear step up from Carbone and will make everybody wonder why whoever it winds up being wasn't playing sooner.

Why was Carbone an SB starting QB for as long as he played remains a mystery to me. The only thing I can think of was, Pay for play. Though, I seriously doubt that was the case.

I did find it curious that we had a quarterback with a subpar arm (for high level FCS) and subpar (for high level FCS)  legs running our offense last year. Even though we are a running team, any CAA QB should have either a strong arm or foot speed (both, if possible). If he is replaced by a running QB that can throw if he has to, that'll be an upgrade IMHO.

That being said, Carbone  was a tough and experienced competitor last year. Those two adjectives mean a lot to our head coach.

Quarterbacks Tyquell Fields and Jack Cassidy have looked very good through the first three weeks of drills. Both have the ability to use their legs and put pressure on opposing defenses. I'm also excited about running backs Ty Son Lawton and Isaiah White.

I think it's kinda dumb making JMU the homecoming game to be honest. Sure it's going to be the greatest atmosphere and greatest attendance SBU ever had, but I'm pretty confident we could have gotten close to that even if it wasn't homecoming. JMU isn't the kind of program you play your homecoming game against. I would have rather made it New Hampshire the following week tell you the truth. Oh well.

If any of you are around on July 20th SBU will be hosting their 7 on 7 with Teams coming from NY, NJ, CT at this time there could be as many as 30 HS Teams.

SBU has offered some 24 HS Players already for the 2020 Class already any many of them will be on campus with their current HS Team competing.

When I look at the physical maturation of guys like Tyquell Fields, Keegan Henderson and Gavin Heslop (just to name three), it is easy to see that the hard work in the Dubin Family Athletic Performance Center is paying off.

The majority of our team has been on campus working out and taking classes throughout the summer. Our freshmen arrived for the second summer session, which started after the July 4 holiday, and have been getting acclimated to school and football. It is obvious that the recruiting efforts led by Coach Priore and Assistant Athletic Director for Player Personnel, Patrick Hatch, are paying huge dividends. We have also placed a heavy emphasis on recruiting talented local walk-ons, and we have some good ones who joined the team this summer.

Another observation is that our eight recruited transfers are really good. While I can't say for certain how many of them will start in the opener against Bryant, I do know that the coaches are thrilled with what they've seen thus far from the group.

note the home record too at maverick.

of course, past results are not necessarily indicators of future performance!

Here is what I do know: we are going to compete for the CAA title and will be in the Top 25. Offensively we will be very good. We have two quarterbacks in Tyquell Fields and Jack Cassidy who can win games for us. Our transfer receivers Brandon Benson and Jean Constant are legitimate talents. Running back, the position that the public sees as a question mark after the graduation of Jordan Gowins and Donald Liotine, features a new dynamic duo with Isaiah White and TySon Lawton. The line is stout and the tight end position is as deep as ever.

Defensively, we have two players that NFL scouts will be flocking to see in Gavin Heslop and Sam Kamara. Joining Sam up front is Casey Williams, who made an instant impact after transferring from Temple a season ago. The coaches have also been raving about graduate transfer Sean Hammonds Jr., who joins us from Ball State. At linebacker and in the secondary, we are fast and physical.

I went to the 1st scrimmage today and in my opinion Fields and Cassidy are dead even at this time as Fields has the stronger arm however he still slings the ball while Cassidy comes over the top. Fields however is the better runner. My dark horse is Zamot as he looks like he has really improved. Overall assessment is that Fields will start and do very well outside of the CAA except against Utah State while he might struggle a little in the CAA games.

Also today both Lawton and White looked  really good running the ball and White brings the ability of catching passes out of the backfield. In my opinion if they stay healthy the running game could be just as good as last year
