2019 Football Season
« on: March 13, 2019, 12:36:51 pm »
With the Spring Season right around the corner I wanted to mention a few things;

There are only 14 seniors on the current Spring Roster so this will be a relatively young team

The QB job will be wide open and with 2 redshirt juniors and 2 redshirt sophomores in the competition. What I have been told is that for the 2020 SBU will be bringing in a scholarship QB either through transfer or high school.

There is only 1 senior RB with 1 redshirt sophomore 1 redshirt freshmen 2 true freshmen

Expect at least 4 FBS transfers right after Spring Camp

There are 2 new Coaches one at WR and one at CB

As usual, thanks for your info Campi. but isn't that we have 2 redshirt freshman (not sophomores at QB?  And, if so, are you surprised that we'd be bringing in a transfer, given the apparent quality of our 2 young QB candidates?

Also, at RB I thought we had 2 redshirt freshman (Lawton and Indelicato) and a junior (Pickett).  You're usually right about these things. So please help straighten me out.

We have Fields and Cassidy as redshirt juniors then we have Zamot and Sanchez as redshirt freshmen so for the 2020 they want to bring in a QB recruit to redshirt now the question is will it be a transfer or a true freshmen

As far as the RB's go I'm looking at the Spring Roster and Pickett is not on the Roster so we have White as a redshirt senior Lawton and Indeiicato as redshirt freshmen there is also 2 true freshmen coming in the Fall

Interesting that Cassidy is in competition for the QB job.

When I named the 4 QB's I was saying that these are the only ones that are on the Roster right now and by the way they are all on scholarship

As far as Jack Coan goes if he doesn't win the QB job then I can see him transferring to another FBS College if he goes FCS then I would say it would be a top tier school like North Dakota State but at this time I don't see him coming here.

I just checked out the spring roster and noticed a number of unexpected missing players from last season.  Any insight into why the following players are not listed?

-- RB Kameron Pickett
-- FB Nick Campo
-- WR Kyle Vadis
-- TE Tyrone Wheatley
-- DB Xavier Braithwaite
-- DB Demarcus Miller
-- LS Anthony Santorelli
-- K Nick Courtney

Losing Wheatley is a major loss. That's unfortunate

Jack Coan is set to be starting qb for wisconsin with 3 yrs of eligibility. The other qb transfered after coan started the bowl game over him.

The list of players that are no longer on the SBU Roster have left the program for an assortment of reasons; walk-ons who were never going to play, academic issues, injuries preventing them from playing, discipline issues, etc.

Jack Coan has not been guaranteed the starting job in fact the 5 Star QB that signed was guaranteed that he will have a chance to be the starting QB if he out performs everyone else so don't assume Coan will be the starter. Also he played in a lot of games as a true freshmen and sophomore so he may only have 2 years and not 3.

I also have heard the transfers that their after are like players of the caliber of Casey Williams who came in last year and did a great job.

Campi, i believe with the new redshirt rules Coan will get 3 more yrs to play. Thats what was explained during the bowl game.

He has two years left (and the redshirt backup and hotshot new guy are both good).  He played a few games two years ago (prior to the new rule) and the Pinstripe Bowl (his 5th game) cost him year 2. He did not dazzle  Badger Nation.

I was at the 1st Spring Scrimmage yesterday now I know it's only the 1st one but I was happy as the hitting was just as hard as a regular season game.

The QB's all looked good and even though there was sloppiness at times they all played well. In fact both sides of the ball played very hard.

SBU has signed two transfers one from Ball State and the other from South Florida and have two more coming in soon so that will bring experience to a very young team

The new coaches that have been hired are very seasoned and will really help this squad develop

Joshua Zamot looks really good and would not be surprised if he plays this year. A few years ago SBU was going to bring in a QB from Nassau CC Zamot reminds a lot of that player.
