We need a little help, but the team is potentially playing for a conference title this Saturday. Don't take the foot off of the gas!

"In @CAAFootball, only top-ranked @JMUFootball or @ElonFB can win the #FCSPlayoffs automatic bid. @StonyBrookFB would be beaten out on tiebreakers if all are 7-1. In fact, JMU gets bid with a win over Elon or a Stony Brook win over Maine. Elon must win and have Stony Brook lose."

A win over Maine coupled with a JMU loss wouldn't get us the auto-bid, but it would get us a share of the CAA title and would finally allow us to lay claim to being CAA champions. That'd be significant. A JMU win and a win ourselves gets us into the conversation for a seed, which I could see us getting depending on how things shake out elsewhere. A top 8 seed, bye, and second round home game would be huge for this program. I don't think we get a seed if Elon upsets JMU as the committee would seed them instead. Something to think about.

Honestly. If I get to pick I would settle for 2nd place (JMU over Elon, SBU over Maine) and take a tournament seed....

ugh, gotta wait till saturday to find out. This is going to be a long week

I should want the same thing, but it'd be really nice to be CAA champions too and hang that banner lol. Logically getting the higher seed and going deeper into the playoffs though would be the better thing to have happen. A quarterfinal appearance (if we get the bye and win the 2nd round game following it) would be a first for the program and would likely be better remembered than the CAA championship (everyone knows JMU is really the best team in conference this year). Good problem to have though. A lot better than being 5-5 heading into a game like this with nothing to play for. The seniors on this team need to have everyone ready to play disciplined ball.

I'd take CAA co-champs over a seed and it's not even close

im leaning towards CAA banner because of the reason i posted in the other thread.  there is a geographic component to seeding, so it's possibly completely variable who may play anyway.

There's a geographic component, but a bye is a bye. We'd likely be looking at playing the winner of a CAA vs Patriot/NEC first round game anyhow. Like an Elon vs Lehigh type of game. Remember Elon winning this weekend means they'd be taking away a seed that would likely go to us if we win and Southern Utah/South Dakota loses.

i meant other than the bye, but yes.  my point is it's not as if 1 plays 16, and 2 plays 15, full stop.  it's possible that 2 plays 12 in a given year, because of mileage.

Absolutely. I think that's utter bullcrap and that needs to change, but it's just the way the FCS playoffs currently are.

The bye week is a big deal. Getting that needed two week break is huge if you want success in the playoffs. Has anyone won the Championship without the Bye week? I haven't looked into it myself, but from the AGS board I saw multiple posters say that no one has pulled it off yet. I know we may not go deep in the playoffs but Its favorable nonetheless

Its good being able to tell your recruits that you compete at a high level and can make it deep into the playoffs.\

EDIT: Just saw your second post about the geographic implications. You are right. The way the FCS does it it's kinda crappy. The try to keep it regional to save on costs... The FCS doesn't draw too many fans to make up for the costs.
