Overall, I'm very satisfied of what the Seawolves achieved this season. As a fan we always want more wins and more success. But within the realm of reality we overachieved for the 2017 season. In August if you would've told me that we were going to finish 10-3 I would've called you crazy.

All the predictions from the "football guys in the media" made our outlook grim.

This 2017 is special for several reasons IMHO:

(1) it placed and solidified Stony Brook in the map as a top tier CAA program. This should hopefully do wonders for our program in terms of recruiting and getting more wins. We may have entered the CAA several years ago. But we finally know what it takes to be at the top

(2) It made us nationally relevant again within the FCS. This is also part of brand building. If we make the playoffs in the next few years there is no doubt that the committee will look at us in a better light and give us better seeding. (Look at UNH how they got by an easy UCA 2nd round Victory)

(3) It gives us the positive momentum that demonstrate to our fans that it is indeed worth investing in Stony Brook football. Hopefully with the Indoor Practice Facility we can only grow faster and stronger. Hopefully the local community and students also turn out to games in larger numbers

Big Big year. Very happy as a fan.

LETS GO SEAWOLVES!!!

while i completely agree with the above- #1 can change quickly if next season is abysmal, followed by a forgetful 2019.
There are 29,413,039 corporations in America; but only one Chairman of the Board.

Losing a lot in experience and talent .  Lets see what 2018 brings especially with the QB situation .  Many of these hot prospects are still 2 or 3 years from playing  using our system of red shirts . That's forever in college  sports.

Excellent season, far exceeded my expectations and as mentioned firmly ends the "why were they added" talk about our program to the conference. Expect an uptick in publicity, recruiting, and fan support with these wins this year, plus the IPF coming next year. Above all else, I hope we build on this and get more fans in the stadium. I've never heard a place get so loud for an FCS game yesterday and that wasn't even a capacity crowd. We need that at Lavalle and we can get it if the university can create a game day experience that gets the students to come out and put out a product on the field worth watching.

For 2018, we do lose a lot no doubt and the schedule gets much harder. I NEVER expect us to revert back to being a five win team despite these losses. I'm going to assume Carbone returns for his final season, so having your QB return allowing some stability will always be a benefit all things being equal. If these recruits come in and light the place on fire in camp, by all means play them over Joe, but otherwise we're probably best sticking with him. I'm hoping for yet another off-season of improvement by Joe.

I'm setting my initial expectations at six wins next year. We lose a lot and the schedule gets tougher, but this is still a talented team. If we're going to make the deep playoff run, we've got to beat the elite teams at some point. Six isn't unreasonable at all. Reverting back to five wins yet again will probably get me calling for certain people's heads again, but we'll see.

I don't really expect the team to take a step back next year. The graduating class had a lot of starts for us, but they were (i believe) the first CAA recruiting class. I think theres some good talent in the more recent classes waiting in the wings. Also I think it's only 8 of this years starters were seniors.

Agreed. Recruiting has only improved year to year. It’s bound to reflect soon. In OOC against FCS opponents, we should go 2-0 (Bryant and Fordham). Focusing on CAA schedule, I expect at least 5-3 conference record. We will be playing all the top teams next year excluding Elon. 7 wins may be good enough to get us back to playoffs. 8 wins will be a lock.

I'm with you on that one. I've mentioned how the schedule next year is significantly harder. I did a breakdown of who we should beat and who we'd need to take games against if we're going to get back to the playoffs:

Should/must wins. We should definitely win all of these if we're going to get back to the playoffs:

Bryant, Fordham, Towson, Rhode Island, Albany

If we're talking about playoffs, then we'd need seven wins and would have to pick up two of the following:

Air Force, Richmond, Villanova, New Hampshire, James Madison, Delaware

Win two of them, and we'll be in the conversation for a playoff spot. Win three and we're a lock and quite possibly get a seed. Win four of these and we definitely get the seed we got screwed out of this year. We've played well against option teams in the past and beat Army before, so I'm not ruling out the Air Force game as unwinnable. Having the month to camp prepare for that one helps.

Air Force is no Army when it comes to Football. They blew to doors off of VMI this year, ( no pun intended) 62-0... I just dont see us beating them next year..

Richmond, UNH, Del, Villanova are all possible wins..

Everything depends on our QB. Carbone is most likely our starter next season again regardless if a 5 star QB transfer from Alabama walks through SB doors or not.. If Carbone improves and gets better, we will be back in the playoffs. If we have the same Carbone as this year, it's a crap shoot. I say that because Carbone will be without his senior WR starters.. And we all know how he likes to target Bolden all season, and when Bolden went down, Jackson tried to replace him and it wasnt the same chemistry..

Carbone is a one dimensional QB. He had his one favorite receiver and was zoned into that guy. When he went down Carbone was lost and unsure of himself on the field.. We saw that when Bolden went down late in the season.  I hope that was a learning curve for Carbone. Never rely on one guy on your team to be the favorite. That is PAL league stuff!

Gotta tell you, our defense was much better at Harrisonburg than SDSU defense.

SDSU got absolutely killed. We turned it over five times, they turned it over 10 times to JMU. They matched our turnover total by the end of the first quarter. Nuts.

That game in Frisco in a few weeks is going to be insane. Pulling for JMU as I'm tired of NDSU and the MVFC, but it's sure to be a good game.

It's going to be JMU vs. NDSU for all the marbles.

Ofcourse, gotta root for the CAA! GO JMU!
