Coach P made his bread and butter running the ball his entire career with SB. Problem is we are not in div3 anymore and it's time to make a change in his play calling or it is time to move on with him!

second half play calling is terrible.  no effort at all to mix it up.  we run for 7 yards on first down, and then we try to run two more times.  where is the play action pass on second and short.  oh, and then we fumbled on the third run of that series.  these offensive coaches need to be fired !! we have the talent, but we dont have the coaching.

This has to be one of the most anemic play calling in the history of football. Its a shame that P and Berhman just have no real idea of how to win at this stage..  Maybe he'll resign on his own, but I doubt it. Lets see what he'll say after the game.... "well Maine just outplayed us and we just have to put this behind us and get ready for.......

This is what I beLIeve.

I just sent Heilbron and SB Athletics a text voicing my concern.. I suggest all you guys do the same. The madness needs to stop.. As a devoted season ticket holder i am disgusted as hell

Don't worry, Chuck will give the standard excuses...

Losing Bedell, Liotine, and White meant that our offense wasn't able to operate as we prepared.
Playing on the road is tough, especially in the CAA.  Maine is a tough place to win.
Maine's a good young team, with a lot of talented players.
A couple of unlucky bounces changed the whole course of the game (muffed punt, sack/strip/fumble/TD).

Just some fun stats....
26 carries for 10 yards.
171yds of total offense
8 penalties for 83 yards
If we take out Bolden's one long reception, our average pass depth was ~7yds.

I don't care how good your defense is, playing offense like it's 1965 isn't going to win.  We've seen this same offensive scheme for years, and it's not going to change as long as the current staff is in place.  When you have a borderline NFL RB and play in the Big South, you can get away with it.  When you actually play against legitimate teams, you get whatever you call our current situation.

Now I still think we SHOULD beat Howard, Elon, and URI.  Which puts us at 5-5 (6-4 if Albany is a bigger mess than we are), meaning that Chuck can yet again say it's been a "successful season" considering the injuries, close losses, etc.  (I can see it now, "If Bedell stayed healthy, we win those close games, and we're an 8-win playoff team").  Which probably means he keeps his gig.

Is it wrong to think it would be better if we lose out the rest of the season?

You don't want to root for someone to be fired, but i'm starting to #beLIeve that we shouldn't be in the CAA.  We'd fit better in the NEC or Patriot League.

The team didn't help itself either with  careless penalties, fumbles lost and dropped  balls  .    Very poor showing all around coaches and players.  Hopefully we win  out and go 6-4 .

glad you guys are seeing it, the poor play calling, I mean.  we throw the ball in fourth quarter when we are down, and the other team does a jail break on every single play.  Bednarski took a real beating today.  lucky to have only one strip sack.  we have no down field passing because there is no O line blocking.  even with a one-step drop, Bednarski is under duress.

I'm tired of calling for the ouster of P, the AD has to step up and make a change. two horrible losses in a row, and no sign of life in the program.  now its doubtful that will happen during the season, but seriously, if P is not your guy, why keep him around next season.  start the rebuilding this off season with a new coach.  yes, someone will have to take a deep breath and stifle a gag when they buy out his contract, but we are regressing at this point.  and it not because we don't have Bedell.  P turns off recruits with his military-like Napoleon complex. I understand there is only one-way communication on this team, from the coaches downward.  the players are never asked for their opinion about what they think will work, or which plays they are confident running.  we need a coach that will engage the kids, be a human, not a robot, and can reengage the fan base.  P has lost the fan base.

speaking of dropped balls- we punt the ball inside the 5 and then our guy gets a ball thrown right in his hands for a sure TD and cant even haul it in? Then on another play 46 drops a ball he should have caught for a sure pick. Lets call it like it is. This team is not executing on ANY sides of the ball. This is a leadership issue and anyone who has played football for more than an hour can see we cant put a full game together and certainly not inspiring these young men. SH needs to take some leadership on himself and no matter what the rest of the season brings P needs to be gone.

i forgot about those dropped Ints.  one would have been a TD on the first play of the game.  and the fumbled punt... and holding on a third and long when we get a pass play for a first down in 4th qtr.  the list goes on and on.  O line play is about desire, and for whatever reason, i dont see much.

So I had that moment today when I realized that this is getting to be a tradition of failure.  I checked our boards and found this:

Yeah, over a year has gone by, and absolutely nothing has changed.

take out Bednarski's sacks, we had 36 yards rushing on 21 attempts.  that is on the O line, and the coaching for not opening up the game.

Hey, I have an idea, how about these coaches light their hair on fire next week and come out throwing.  make the run game secondary to the passing game.  at this point in the season, it cant hurt.

Anyone happen to notice a couple of roster changes.  Dimitri Russ and Jeremy Leggerio no longer listed.  I noticed Leggerio's absence Saturday when Cassell was hurt and replaced by McGinty.  Leggerio was a captain.
