The brick wall they should be worried about is our off line and Coker. Last time I checked they haven't played anyone the caliber of Maysonet either. Usually when fans talk trash it means that they are worried about the unknown, they find out on Sat.

OK, lets talk some football, Here is what I am seeing from our end of things.

SBU has a hell of a run game, 2 very good backs and an OL that I don't consider huge, but it big at around #300, You OL seems to be well coached and good on their technique. You passing game is decent, but has weakness in that it is dependent on 1 go to reciever, really loot at the stats, nobody else catches many balls. I will assume that the #2 QB is as good throwing as your #1, I say this thinking that your passing game is set up by the run game.

On defense the Cats have a very good defense, we are talented, deep and relentless. We dont do a lot of fance stuff, we play base a lot and can stop most run teams. If you are looking at stats then throw out the PSU game because we were rotating heavily at 10:00 of the second quarter, most of their rush yeards came against our #3's. We have a solid secondary too, we have faces 3 of the top 15 passing teams in the FCS, our rush defense is rated 5th and we have played 2 of the top 16 rush teams. Our D is built to stop the run but we have to stop the pass since we face a lot of good passing teams.

On defense I see a good solid defend in SBU, but again I see weakness we can exploit in the quick passing game and across the middle. Containment will be an issue for you when we are on offense. It looks like you safeties and Cb get a lot of tackles, If we get a run game going at all you will be in trouble.

The Cats offense seems to get the attention, even though our defense is probably the strongest unit. Our QB is elusive and will make plays both with his fee and his arm, he will extend plays and frustrate your DL. We have a solid RB corp although not as good as yours. We dont have a lot of burners at WR, but we have some good possession receivers and will chip away at your secondary. Our biggest asset on offense is the we spread the ball a lot, I think we have 11 receivers with passing TD's this year, your D will have to cover every player every play. Our weakness is a young and light OL, but we have one of the best OL coaches in the FCS (not bragging, its a fact) they are good at their technique will find ways to succeed.

If the Cats can limit your run game then we win, I don't expect us to shut you down because you are that good, but you will probably be facing the best run D you have seen all year and that includes your FBS games

there are a lot of similarities in the way these two teams play. Both like to control the ball and the clock. I think the Cats balance on offense will be their biggest advantage.

Home field will be an advantage but its not a major factor, it sounds like we will have around 17,000 for this game and it will be loud when you are on offense, the weather looks to be good (mid 30's) with little wind and very little chance of precip

Good analysis Cats2506. Regarding our O-line, it's definitely bigger than your typical FCS line, but just as importantly, they're strong. Coach Priore was recently quoted as saying that all starting linemen can each bench at least 400 lbs. and squat 600. A lot of lineman are big, but being able to project that weight with strength means a lot too. I know of NFL O-linemen that cannot bench 400 lbs.

Happy birthday to ecasado.

Just going from memory, but I think it will be the third biggest line we will face this year, I am impressed with your OL, more so than your RB's  :o

Just as a comparison um has a huge OL, and they are very good run blockers, (#11 in FCS) they were averaging close to 250 per game rushing, MSU's defense held them to 168, if we can do similar to you then we will be ok.

Granted, both you and um run different types of offense.

Keep sleeping on our rb's, you'll find out how good they are on Sat. I guess you are of the belief that you are unbeatable. SB has never coward on the big
stage. MS is a good team no doubt, but don't act like they are the NY Giants. That's why they play the games.

Griz or Cats2506-- has there been any serious talk of upgrading MSU football to FBS...or is everyone pretty content at FCS level?

to my knowledge there isn't any interest in moving up for the Cats, I believe that the WAC had some communication but that is it.  The school to the west of us(Montana) has played around with the idea for a few years, but I don't think they will be going anywhere.  It is very possible for Idaho to drop from FBS to FCS and join the BIG SKY.

Chrissy; I dont think I was sleeping on your RB's, in fact I thought I gave them a lot of respect, I just happen to like your OL a little more.

ry1nik, Hunter is right, not much desire to play in the big money leagues from MSU fans now. I think we fit really well in this level.

Won't be making the trip Griz but thanks for the offer, will be watching on TV. Cats don't take me that serious, these guys on our site know that sometimes I come off a little salty. Don't want to offend, it's all in good fun.
