Stony Brook promotes Hemphill to defensive coordinator
Stony Brook, NY (Sports Network) - Stony Brook defensive backs coach Lyle Hemphill has been promoted to defensive coordinator, head football coach Chuck Priore announced on Tuesday.

Hemphill replaces Rob Neviaser, who resigned to accept a position at Bowling Green.

"For the past two seasons, Rob has helped us set the benchmark of Stony Brook defense," Priore said. The promotion of Lyle will help us maintain consistency. I'm excited about the level of energy and passion Lyle will bring as our new coordinator."

Stony Brook is joining CAA Football this season, and Hemphill has extensive experience in the conference, serving two different stints with Delaware.

He will coordinate a defense that returns six starters, including senior linebacker Jawara Dudley, a two-time all-conference selection.

Stony Brook had a 10-3 record this past season, earning a share of the Big South Conference title and reaching the FCS playoff second round.

for QB competition, I think its a bit early to begin speculation.  Negron has to be incumbent, due to his returning status as a redshirt senior.  its his job to lose, so to speak.  I am sure he will get spirited competition from Bednarski and Hernandez this spring.

from what I recall,NCAA rules say that the coaches can not observe the players doing actual football drills right now, only the conditioning stuff can be led by the coaching staff.  I believe that shortly before Spring Ball starts in mid-march, we will begin to see the coaches and players doing football stuff together.  so whatever the QBs and receivers are doing right now, they are organizing throwing sessions on their own, throwing in the gym, or maybe now out at La Valle stadium if the snow is gone.

can someone start up a folder on Spring Football 2013 so that we can log our comments in that folder?  thanks

I must admit that I'm a little confused re: the QB options available.  All the info I've previously run across indicates that Jimmy Walker also signed with SBU awhile back, and he seemed to be a very talented candidate.  Yet, he is never mentioned in the QB mix.  Have I missed something here?  Did Walker disappear off the map, or is he still one of the signees?

I hear you !!!!.. I wish we had a little more info with regards to our Quarterback situation but like BFF said, we must wait untill the spring practice to see who is out on the field throwing, something to do with the NCAA rules.  Priore can't practice with the players yet on the greens .. I have no clue if this is in fact true !!!

I think Walker will be either a preferred walk on or a grant in-aid player.  I dont think he was offered an outright scholarship.  someone posted a news clip of him signing at his HS a few weeks back, so I think he will be at SB in the Fall.  but he is still in HS right now, so will not be part of spring practice.

They fought the British  way back when on our side.  They  were local  militia  in the Carolinas during our Revolution wore blue stockings . The movie the Patriot with Mel  Gibson is all about their exploits. Mostly a true story.

Maybe we traded a Blue Hose for a Blue Hen, but we also traded a Presbyterian for a Delaware. All in all, I'd say a good trade
