Stony Brook also announced on Wednesday that Maysonet has been invited to participate in the inaugural Raycom College Football All-Star Classic on Jan. 19 in Montgomery, Ala. The game features coaching staffs headed by NFL veterans Dan Reeves and Jim Bates, and it will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. The game takes place the same day as the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Additionally, Maysonet is on the emergency invite list for the prestigious Senior Bowl on Jan. 26 in Mobile, Ala. Senior Bowl running backs announced so far include Wisconsin’s Montee Ball, Oregon’s Kenjon Barner, UCLA’s Johnathan Franklin and Florida’s Mike Gillislee. If anyone drops out, Maysonet would be on the short list to receive an invite.

At the moment, Maysonet is projected to be drafted in the fourth or fifth round in April, but now he has an opportunity to improve his stock with his pre-draft performance in the Raycom All-Star showcase and the Indy combine.

I'm so excited for our upcoming year. I wish football was year round. Sucks that we gotta wait almost a year to see these great matchups against the CAA.

I'm happy for Maysonet. Such a down to earth personality. I wish him the best.

Off topic. Did anyone watch the FCS Champion game on saturday NDSU vs Sam Houstan ??  .. What a great game that was.... After watching that game I  was just thinking about how NDSU could very easilly be in a FBS confrence and compete against some of the smaller school in the FBS and win, and they have. Actually I think they do have a winning record against FBS schools... The question is. Do they want to join the FBS or just stay in the FCS and win Champiomships????

From what I've been reading lately, if an FBS school makes it into a Bowl game that school would need to sheel out about $10 milliom dollars??? someone correct me if I'm wrong with that but sounds like alot of $$$$ for a small school like NDSU and many other FCS schools to be paying for a bowl game.

So the question reamains...If SBU becomes as good as NDSU, Old Domimion, and others and could easilly compete in a FBS confrence, would they want to ??????

regarding a move. i think all landgrant/flagship state institution should aspire to play at the FBS level. that's just my opinion. but it may not be part of ndsu's mission

I saw the FCS champ game over the weekend.  i was really impressed with the fan support of both teams.  that's what it takes to get program to the next level.  SB has a way to go in that area.  but we are moving in the right direction.  a continuation of the winning seasons will hopefully put fans in the stadium for our home games and will get more fans to travel for the road games.  lets not get the cart ahead of the horse with big FBS expectations.

I agree with BigFF. We are not there yet with fan support. Also it's not always the best move to jump up to FBS. I don't know what it does for some of these programs. You go from being top dog in the FCS to an after thought in FBS. You can get talent but it takes alot more than that to be a successful FBS program. Northeast football on a whole needs to get better. All the FBS teams that have cut ties with the northeast ( Pitt, Penn St., BC, Rutgers, Syracuse, Uconn?) is a sign of disconnect. This is a pro football area but it could be a college one as well. I think that The CAA teams bring that back to some extent. Umass playing in the MAC doesn't accomplish a thing. If in 5-10 yrs they elevate some CAA teams from the Northeast like SB, NH, Delaware, Maine etc and take some of the big east teams that are going to be left in the cold when that conf dismantles and create a new Northeast heavy conf, I feel that will work. But putting SB or NH in the MAC would make no sense. It needs to be geographic in order to get the fan bases involved. And hopefully with the continued local recruiting our attendance will keep going up, cause it needs to.
