It happened guys...

Coastal Carolina is 6-0 and ranked 15th in the AP Poll ahead of major programs like Oklahoma, USC, Texas, and Michigan. Liberty is ranked 25th in the poll also with a 6-0 record. Both teams meet on December 5th which could easily be a top 15 match-up if they both continue to win.

But please, tell me again, how we have to stay in the FCS forever and deal with Coach P being able to barely crack five wins. Bull****. We can be way, way, WAY better than we currently are. Remember that we were beating both of these programs handily on the field less than a decade ago.

The NCAA requires schools to “average at least 15,000 in actual or paid attendance for all home football contests over a rolling two-year period,” according to the NCAA Division I Bylaws.

I feel your pain! I once had the same sentiment as you about this same subject but realized why SB will never go FBS. It all comes down to Money. SBU is a state university, funded by tax dollars. Emperor Cuomo does not believe in sports, and will not support any such move up. LaValle stadium would have to be expanded to about 25,000 seats. Who's going to pay for that? SB can barely fill 7000 seats on any given game, never mind 15k plus.

If there was no talks of SB going FBS in the best economic times of our life there definitely wont be any talks now that NYS in knocking on the doors of a huge financial crisis.

I actually believe SB will drop their football program in the near future. That is more practical than any move up to the FBS level..

It all starts with getting Cuomo out of office. He's a disgrace to this state.

If I were in charge, I'd also make it mandatory for students to attend football games. Change starts at the top, and the leadership has been effectively weak. In addition, banning commuters as well. Commuters are a cancer to Stony Brook and its athletic program, they are actively harmful to the school's image and reputation and numbers. But yet the school has done nothing to discourage them. You cannot be the leader of a school and do nothing about your commuter problem.

You don't actually believe 12,000 people were at that game, do you? Everyone from professional to college fake attendance numbers. I know first hand. Was in the press box on one occasion where they went around throwing out numbers to put down. And it's even worse at the basketball games.

#15 Coastal Carolina beats Sun Belt power Appalachian State at home to improve to 8-0 on the season. The best start for a Sun Belt team EVER. It will be interesting to see where the playoff committee ranks them come Tuesday. #21 Liberty plays at NC State tonight at 7:30.

That was a real fun game to watch. I was going back and forth from the Ohio State game to the Coastal game. While I was watching the game I could not help but wonder, had SB gone the same path as CC they'd be playing in the FBS today. The days of playing in the Big South was the time to push for that move. Now, with NYS being in a huge financial hole and KIng Como looking to rob his citizens of NYS of every Penny, SBU won't get a Cent for expansion of that stadium to accommodate FBS standards.

College Gameday will be going to Coastal Carolina this weekend as they take on Liberty at home. CCU is ranked #14, and Liberty #25 in both the AP and Coaches polls. The playoff committee ranks CCU at #20

Makes you wonder where SBU could be right now had we been able to get the stadium project funded sooner and really parlay our Big South success into something larger back when the realignment wheels were spinning. Happy for both of these schools. Hopefully SBU can join them someday.

rhetorical question but if gameday somehow landed in SB, assuming decent weather, what kinda figures do we get.  double our normal avg (~7300)?

I mean, he's right. Stony Brook used to regularly beat up on Coastal Carolina and Liberty. There's no reason that they should both be thriving while we lag behind, considering we were ahead of them for so long. Blame Cuomo for being the biggest A-hole and vetoing a stadium expansion. I hate that man so much.

im just asking- if we got that stadium expanded... would we fill it?

hint- we can't fill it now

i've never been a believer in the build it / they will come trope.  businesses fail all the time.  why should we believe we'll suddenly pack our stands?
