Priore’s conservative nature killed him in 2019, and it’s going to kill him if he doesn’t stop. Letting Fields sit while Carbone threw together a mediocre senior season was a horrible mistake. Fields had a good year as a first-year starter, but he should have had even more experience.

There was this glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, Priore would be let go at some point. The economy was doing great. Money flowing into the university from everywhere. Schools upgrading facilities all around the Country. But now, with this Pandemic and NYS essentially bankrupt, we will be lucky to even have a football team, never mind replacing sleepy Chuck Priore, the worst college football coach in the CAA

100%. Take a look at AD Shawn Heilbron's track record with hirings. More than half of the head coaches across all sports have been brought in after he came to town. Notable exceptions, Spalina built an America East dynasty with WLAX, Matt Senk with Baseball, and Megan Bryant with Softball. Those three have produced a lot over the years. Chuck has not. Or at least not recently. The 2018 season was not Priore, and in fact, had he not screwed up against Albany, they might have had a home game in the playoffs.

There was talk about Chuck getting the boot if they had a losing season. And then it was if they lost to Albany, it would happen. It became, "wait until after national signing day" and only a month after COVID hit. He's one of the top paid athletics individuals in the entire state. Not The Top, but definitely top-10. Should never have let Lyle Hemphill leave for Wake Forest.

I could not have said this any better. SH must have his hands tied with the premise to replace to midget coach. Something must be going on behind closed doors to keep Priore around. i worked for the for SB Hospital for a little while, trust me. Some shaddy **** goes on within the state organization...

I can't be the only one sorta disappointed with Heilbron? He's made little progress with the athletic department. Aside from the Indoor Facility he's not been worth his salt. What else has he done? Stony Brook is still stranded in the FCS and America East! He talks a big game about taking Stony Brook to the next level... but it's all talk, no action.

Yes, New York sucks. SUNY is awful for operating dozens of useless shithole colleges upstate for no reason, I get that it hamstrings him financially. But that's his job to stick up for his department and demand more funding at the expense of those places. What else is new now that Heilbron is here?

i think there has been a lot of sport-specific progress.  and let's not forget, graduation rates matter, staying out of trouble.  getting state funding, building facilities, website, building the profile.  he's done all these things.  conference affiliation could be partially out of his hands.  the things that aren't- he's accomplished them.

I'm not as hard on Heilbron as a lot of you. That said his biggest screw up was not booting Heilbron and promoting Hemphill as mentioned. Our defense was elite during the Hemphill years. We've fallen a long way since then. Meanwhile Hempill is taking down ranked ACC teams as the DC at Wake Forest. I have to imagine we'd be in a much better spot as a program had we promoted and paid him.

It is what it is.

Part of the conference thing is not Shaun's fault. BrookLand did a piece on it, as did some random site; Hofstra blocked SBU's admission to the CAA as a full member. That definitely would've boosted credibility all around. That was before he arrive, but since then not much has proven the school Is worthy of moving up to a better conference.

As for money rolling in, or not, don't forget who donated half of the money for the indoor practice facility, Glenn Dubin, a known associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Stony Brook had no problem taking his money, and naming the indoor facility after him. It was only after the Epstein saga played out at they decided to not use his name. But he won't donate anymore. Say bye to the biggest cash cow. And Alumni I talked to at Homecoming told me they won't give another cent till Chuck is canned.

Oh and Governor Cuomo killed the funding for LaValle upgrades, which by god it desperately needs. The elevator to the media/VIP suites is the slowest thing EVER.

WOW!! I didn't know there was a connection between Dubin and Epstein. Wasnt Dubin their biggest supporter?? Stony Brook is screwed for many years to come. Good thing that indoor facility got built when it did..

They never renamed it. Now it's simply referred to as the Indoor Practice Facility... I forgot to include a link to a piece connecting Dubin-Epstein.

As for the elevator, there's nothing like heading down the stairs at the end of a loss and the opposing coaches are running down the stairs talking smack and almost trample you.

That Cuomo vote was super F'd. One of the main reasons why I'll never vote for him ever in anything. LaValle would be FBS-ready had that expansion happened. Not that I expect Cuomo to even know what FBS means.

Sucks that Dubin got caught with his pants down. I'm sure the athletics department wouldn't mind if he made a hefty anonymous donation, although I don't think he has any incentive to do that right now.

To go along with a Chuck firing, other coaches/people attached to the team should be shown the door with him, and to me, number one on that list is Patrick Hatch. Hatch is "Assistant AD/Coordinator of Player Personnel/Recruiting Coordinator". He follows Chuck around like a lost puppy, and a few recruits last year who came on visits told me Hatch gave them weird vibes.

Typically, when a head coach gets the boot the entire staff goes. I just dont see Priore ever getting the boot. He is a career football coach for SB and will be until he retires.

It would be a mistake to fire Steve Martino. Everyone loves him, and scouts and opposing coaches have told me he's got a shot at leading an FBS team one day.

If Steve Martino is as good as they say he is he will eventually leave on his own like Lylle Hemphill did.  I say clean house and start fresh with new coaches and ideas..
