I just got off the phone with one of my SBU contacts and as of today a total of 41 players have been offered of which only 1 comes from LI

I heard coach P is offering 5 star players scholarships. Actually, I have not. But chances are none of these star players are going to sign with a small school like SB, if they never even heard of us.

This is bad for small FCS schools. If an athlete has to make a decision over a phone or through Skype, or whatever they are using today. That athlete is going to go to a bigger, more recognizable FBS school. Not some small school he never heard of. I respect the coaches for trying though. I would probably do the same. Why not!!!!

I don't think we win this game, but I don't think we get blown out too badly either and with the inevitable belt tightening that's coming I'm sure the extra paycheck helps.

Honestly though, I would be shocked if this game doesn't get cancelled too. I see no reason to have a football season this year. The only schools positioned to lose a lot of money over this are the P5. The rest of the G5 and FCS don't have the financial incentive to put all of their players at risk over this.

I agree. There will not be a football season this year. I am hearing and reading articles about a 2021 spring season. How does that work? Does 2021 spring season count towards the 2020 season, and do they play again in the Fall of 2021, and count towards the 2021/22 season. Food for thought!!

I don't know. I think if the school is in session for all kids we can play sports too. (I have not heard if the campus will be fully occupied by students this fall semester but I have not been paying too close attention to SBU's announcements.) It may be true that all the kids on campus will be at greater risk of at least infection by Covid-19 than if they stayed home but I am not even sure about that.

I don't want spring football either for that reason. It will throw everything off. The P5 will also need to think about all their NFL kids who wouldn't want to play due to the draft being in the middle of the season potentially. If you're going to do football, either do a delayed, shortened season of conference games only, or don't have it at all.

NFL they might be able to work something out to play, but definitely no college football this year.

I love Fields, but I've seen nothing from him so far that makes me think HE is the first player to ever be drafted out of SBU. He really needed this season for that and he's just not going to get it. Hopefully they just give everyone another year of eligibility.

Fields has not shown us that he can compete against tougher competition. That game against Utah State pretty much says it all. Doing well against CCSU wont get you in the NFL.

I’m not convinced that he will get drafted either however the week before the Utah State game he was banged up pretty good but SBU decided to play him anyway. I know this because I was at the Utah game and when they finally pulled him they were working on him

No to get anyones hopes up or jinx it ahead of tomorrow's deadline, but Gavin Heslop is still listed on the Seahawks roster. The deadline for cuts is tomorrow at 4 and he's one of the 78 still on the roster at the moment. Would be a big deal if he makes it and with how I anticipate this season will go as far as players missing time due to the virus, I think it's fairly likely he sees the field at some point this year assuming he at least makes the practice squad.

https://stonybrookathletics.com/news/2020/9/6/reports-stony-brook-football-alum-gavin-heslop-to-join-seahawks-practice-squad.aspx

Was a bit sad when I saw he didn't make it, but honestly making the active roster for the Seahawks at that position out of the gate was always going to be a long shot. Being on the practice squad gives him a chance to develop and depending on how Covid shakes out, perhaps see the field at some point.
