Not really Seawolves news.. but CAA news. JMU has hired Elon’s Cignetti as head coach! Didn’t see that coming. Good hire for them though. He is capable. But can he replicate Houston’s success?

No idea. I wouldn't think so, but I really don't know.

With Maine’s blowout loss today, the CAA has clearly relinquished its billing as top FCS conference.

Our loved HC, coach P has been with SB for more than 15 years, and as far as we all know has never had any offer to make a move over to the big house, FBS. Well. Maine HC, Joe Harasymiak, who is only the Black Bears coach for 3 short years is now gone from Maine and is an assistant defensive coach for Minnesota.  See what happens to coaches in the FCS when you go deep into the playoffs!!

FBS programs will look at that stretch of five win seasons from 2013-2016 and go "WTF," then pass on Coach P.

Couple big developments overnight on the coaching front. Harasymiak as we knew already is Minnesota bound, but breaking overnight was news that Maine's defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman has accepted the same position at JMU, and Towson's offensive coordinator Jared Ambrose has left for the same position at Delaware. These are both huge developments as Maine's defense, and Towson's offense were both not only the strongest units on their respective teams, but the strongest units in the entire conference last year. Both heading for the two largest brands in the CAA is an interesting development to say the least.

With JMU hiring Cignetti from Elon and now adding Hetherman as their DC, that squad is going to be stacked. They return a ton of players next year, so I don't see any dropoff occurring like we may have hoped for. Other than Utah State, JMU will easily be our toughest game next year. I think JMU's dominance of the CAA continues unless Cignetti proves to be a huge flop.

Ambrose is leaving his brother as well as Tom Flacco and a loaded group of returning starters behind at Towson. They'll still be dangerous, but now they'll be without their OC, and that offensive scheme. I'd credit Towson success last year more to Flacco than Ambrose, so this may not be too bad, but on the surface not exactly the best news for the CAA. The rich get richer.

I'm hearing there were serious money issues in Maine, which made it harder to retain both coaches. They're really hurting relying heavily on booster donations. Something is not right up there. Not sure who they get back for next year, but their coaching staff has been gutted, as has Elon's, who will lose likely their entire staff as well as several players to graduation. Towson has the most players coming back, but again lost their OC.

For better or for worse, SBU will have the most continuity in the coaching staff heading into 2019 of the six CAA playoff teams. I hope we can capitalize on that. Good news is I think the middle of the CAA just cleared out a fair bit, opening a path into the top 2. If we can get the QB position figured out, I like our odds next year. We have key players back along the defensive line, secondary, and interior offensive line.

The Deadskins have been decimated at the OL positions all year. I'm honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner. Hopefully he plays today, but stays healthy obviously. Great for Timon and great for this program to have another player get NFL playtime.

...and he was just called for a false start penalty. Probably nerves.

Didn't watch the whole game, but I heard he got in the field in the 4th. I think he only goes in on running downs?? I caught some of the game on the radio. Watching the rest now.

SBU ends the year as #16 in the STATS poll and #18 in the Coaches poll. Can't feel bad about ending the year that way given how we had a complete meltdown in the final two games. Nice to be able to pitch a top 20 finish to recruits even though we've all since long moved on to basketball at this point. SBU is the highest ranked five loss team in the STATS poll, the more legitimate of the two polls. Big takeaway here is that we're finally getting some respect as a program now, which will lead to higher rankings, and eventually higher post-season seeds.

I'm a bit more favorable towards Priore because (while Hofstra's folding helped a LOT) he did this. His talent, recruiting skills, and commitment permitted our expectations to perhaps rise above the ceiling of his abilities. I work at an ACC school now, and people there have actually heard of our football team. It's nice.
