Read this before deciding if going FBS is in SBU's best interests. When future students are asked to subsidize the program, not sure they'll agree it was a great idea.

Athletics has never been about turning a profit. Not at this level. It's more about student life and alumni engagement which wind up generating a return back to the university in ways far beyond(lol) the balance sheet. The article even states this.

Quote
"The value that athletics brings to campus life, life-long connection to alumni, and enhancing diversity on campus are all important outcomes from athletic programs that need to be celebrated and shared."

If you're insinuating that sports which don't make money should be dropped, then college athletics should be done away with entirely and the NCAA abolished.
SB is a Division I school and I don’t know anyone suggesting it be any different. The issue is FCS v. FBS. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Be a perpetual FCS top tier school and students will be plenty engaged, or at least as much they can be at a STEM university on Long Island.

This is what happens to a CAA coach who has a history of big time wins and success.

Our former basketball coach did the same thing .  This is a business like it or not . Perform well at one level and get promoted to the next level with more salary and prestige.  Maybe he stays at ECU for a number years makes them a winner and moves on to a P5 program. Simple math.

This dude will never be heard from again. ECU is not a good job. Just look at the coach who left North Dakota St. after 3 national titles in a row. He is now at Wyoming and had a 28-35 tecord. JMU was a better job than ECU

ECU has a history as a fairly prominent independent back in the day 70s through the mid 90s. They were also the first G5 team to ever be ranked in the top 20 by the College Football Playoff committee just four years ago. They've got a massive stadium, amazing fan following, and good recruiting area. The only tough thing about turning that place around is that you have UCF, USF, Cinci, and Temple all in that same division who are all fairly hot programs right now. That's why I don't think it will be easy for him. If he gets them turned around he'll be at the top of the list for any P5 openings that come up 3-4 years from now.

Just for some facts. JMU has/had 17 FBS star transfer players on their team this year, including their QB, DeNucci. Colgate has zero. Just a tiny bit of food for thought!

not to mention who is in-state that competes for those players...

hammer- nice find, that's good to know.  i'll also wager a guess that overall, gate has a more rigorous academic program than JMU.  oh and, much worse weather.

I don't know where to post this, since the 2019 Commitments Topic has been locked.  But, I just saw the unwelcome news that DB Isas Waxter has decommitted from SBU, and is apparently headed for URI!  Must be a story there!!

Cant blame the kid. SB is not known to be a throwing offense but more of a running team. Waxter knows this and made the wise choice to leave..

Waxter is a DB, not a WR.  So, there must be a different reason.

wow, brinson is fast, especially on those sweeps.  since we are a running team, it would be nice to have a him off tackle and a "jackolski" for power I.

I believe SBU pulled the offer because he continued the recruiting process with many schools and even though he committed to URI he is going on another visit this weekend.

SBU has offered a very good DB from Maryland who's coming in for a visit this weekend

Chairman this is NSD on Wednesday so I will start a new thread today and call it 2019 NSD is that okay since the other thread is locked

Bummer though because I thought he looked good.

Also he took his unofficial visit this past weekend. Maybe he just didn't love Stony Brook? It might just be that simple.

Not really Seawolves news.. but CAA news. JMU has hired Elon’s Cignetti as head coach! Didn’t see that coming. Good hire for them though. He is capable. But can he replicate Houston’s success?
