The 52-14 final score also marks the largest margin of victory and the largest point total put up against a conference opponent or a team ranked inside the FCS Top 25.

The Dukes have dropped just one conference game in the past three seasons, and will likely be ranked inside the Top 3 when Stony Brook comes to town next weekend. The two programs last met in the second round of last year’s FCS playoffs, but the last time they faced each other in the regular season was in 2015.

Priore understands that they’re playing the top competition, but it won’t change their approach.

“We’re playing against [Goliath]. We’ll be the underdog by a lot. So be it,” he said. “We’ll have to prepare correctly and take the correct attitude and go down there and play Stony Brook football and see what happens.”

Updated rankings:

#15 in the STATS poll
#15 in the COACHES poll

Both are BS as we should be a few spots higher. What really gets me is how many teams from the weak SOFTLAND conference that are in the poll. They have four teams ranked in a conference that's little better than the NEC this year. Dumb, but it is what it is.

Not related to SBU, but Buffalo is playing on ESPN2 right now as part of the MAC's midweek TV package called "Maction." For schools with large commuter populations like SBU, playing weeknight games like this may not be the worst thing. Buffalo is having their best season ever thus far, so they're definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Interesting comments from a supposed member of the selection committee. It shouldn't matter if we beat Albany, but it's something to keep in mind as we're almost certainly going to meet another CAA team in the first two rounds of the postseason.

Stony Brook #10 in both major polls released today. First time this has happened since 2012 I believe!! Great for the program and our playoff odds.

STATS: http://www.fcs.football/cfb/polls.asp?div=fcs
Coaches: https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/fcs-coaches-poll

To preface what I'm about to say: BEAT ALBANY. None of this matters if we don't beat the puppy dogs.

JMU is head of us in both, but plays Towson this weekend. The committee doesn't go off of polls, but I think if we're the highest ranked CAA team, that will look good come seeing time and bode well for who we get in the playoffs. If the CAA gets six teams in, I'm 99% sure we'd be matched up against one of the teams we didn't play in the first round. Maine and Elon would both fit the bill. Out of those, I'd rather face Elon due to their injury issues late, but we'll see. With the geographic angle the committee takes, I see virtually no way the committee puts six CAA teams in the playoff while avoiding a first round conference matchup. If we're real lucky we get the NEC champion (Duquesne, CCSU, or Sacred Heart) at home, but despite being a top 10 team I don't think we'll get that lucky. If there are six CAA teams in, they're going to have at least two of them play each other round one to thin the herd.

I'm hoping for a miracle there's enough chaos around the country for us to get a seed and first round bye. Best way for that I think is Kennesaw State beating Jacksonville State, Elon beating Maine, JMU beating Towson, and ETSU beating Samford to win the SoCon (and hoping they give us the seed at 8-3 over a 9-2 SoCon champ ETSU). Colgate losing to Army would also help, but that might not matter. Weber, Eastern Washington, UC Davis, and Wofford are all significant favorites in their games. I can't count on any of them losing, but we can hope. If all of the above happens, we could be looking at something like this:

Playoff Seeds:

1 NDSU
2 Eastern Washington
3 Colgate
4 Kennesaw State
5 Weber State
6 JMU
7 South Dakota State
8 Stony Brook

Also under consideration: UC Davis, ETSU, Wofford.

All in all, I'd bet on a Thanksgiving weekend game against a CAA opponent. If not them, then one of Duquesne, or Wofford/ETSU. Wildcard is they send one of the 6-5 Valley teams out our way like an Indiana State, Northern Iowa, or Western Illinois, but I doubt it. Would make for a super interesting playoff game though.

nobowls.com has this projection of the field if the season ended today. I think this fair. I'd hate to play @Colgate in the second round, but they haven't played anybody all year. We'll know whether or not they're a paper tiger after the Army game.

I'd love to see a home game to open (I don't see us getting a bye either) and could live with Maine or whomever else is  sent our way.

Colgate in round 2 wouldn't be bad either (their best win was over reeling [QB Trevor Knight  sat out with injury] and now 4-6 UNH).

Thank goodness UNH is not even close to consideration (they seem to get very nice breaks from the committee).

The CAA league office just issued a statement on the possible scenarios for who would get the AQ bid from the CAA. As I mentioned earlier though, the scenario that results in us getting the AQ, actually may not be the best one for us getting a seed and vice-versa. Beat Albany, hope for a Maine loss, hope for chaos elsewhere, and let the chips fall where they may.

It’s been a while since I heard Sagarin ranking. Does he still do weekly ranking? He used to do college basketball ranking, as well, which was the best imo. Better than Pomeroy, ie Kempom.

That's interesting that they are making Maine travel .  The weather up there in late November can be ugly at best.

This is very interesting. Showing 6 CAA teams in the playoffs! Shows the strength of the conference. SEC of FCS.

As for bracket. I hope we get a seed. What needs to happen for a seed? Will defeating Albany with a high margin give us the seed? What other results need to be in our favor?

If we don’t get the seed, I hope we get to play other eastern teams rather than CAA teams in the first couple of rounds. I would rather play Duq, Wofford or Colgate than Maine. Not because I don’t think we can’t beat them, but because of novelty. We get to play CAA teams all the time.

Lastly, more than seed, I really hope we can be co-champions! Elon, please do us a favor!
