Buffalo pulls out a close one on the road against Temple today. Their first 2-0 start to a season since going FBS in 1999. Ohio was the favorite in the MAC east but has looked shaky this season so far. Buffalo could be in store for a special season on their end. Definitely keep a close eye on them down the stretch here.

Interesting article   very biased but interesting .  People still  come out to  watch  both college and pro football . Granted attendance has declined on both venues so the sports networks report  some say by as much 7%. Time will tell but I don't think  kids at the college are being taken advantage of  especially at Stonybrooks level .  These kids want to play and yes some will be injured along the way.

I don't mind the piece. It was a student stating his opinion.

I do worry about the game long term, and what changes if any could be made to keep the game around. That's something the sport at all levels will have to deal with. You're already seeing a steep decline in participation in the sport among affluent families who don't want their children developing CTE.

some thoughts from a student on the state of the game: https://www.sbstatesman.com/2018/09/16/football-fandom-keeps-the-sports-problems-in-the-background/

Good article and very true. My son, who is a senior in HS for WM, tore his ACL in the very first game against Sachem North. His season is done and so is his football carrier. He is set for surgery this coming Tuesday. He will probably have aches and pains in that knee for life. All for what. Hitting and tackling someone you dont know?. Was it worth it. Is it worth it. Well, for my son it was worth it and he would do it all over again if given a chance.

i agree with all three of you- if that's somehow possible!

i had a lot of long term debilitating injuries from football.  i'm still in pain, 20-something years later, every single day.

I guess I got lucky. I mean, I got hit in the head a few times, but no apparent long term damage yet!

i know this isnt a "results on the field" thing, but i do like it: https://stonybrookathletics.com/news/2018/9/20/together-we-transform-blog-together-we-transform-thursday-sept-20-2018.aspx?path=blog

Each Thursday throughout the football season, we unveil the uniform combination that will be worn by our team on Saturday.

With two helmets (white, red), three jerseys (white, red, navy), two pants (white, red) and two socks (white, red) available at our disposal, the possibilities are vast. If you have ever wondered what goes into making the decision each week, it is very simple.

Shawn's weekly blog is  a good way to gain insight into where he wants to take athletics .  So  Saturday the blue jerseys return  with red pants and helmets pretty  cool .

Hammer I'm sorry to hear about your son's injury however they have made great strides that is helping athletes avoid a lifetime of pain. I have had 3 concussions, broken ankle, torn ligaments in both ankles, 2 meniscus operations, broken nose and most of my teeth knocked out and a lot of it was from sports, car accidents and teenage incidents. While I do have pain every day because along the way I developed Arthritis however I workout everyday doing something. For my knee I got a PRP shot and my knee feels better than when I was 30 (I'm now 72) and I go to at least 3 HS or College Football games a week plus my grand children's games during the week.

I tell this to all of you because if you stay active the pain is very livable.

I have a very good P/T place that I swear by called North Island 631-798-8898

Thanks, Campi47.

I appreciate you giving my son information with football camps around the Island. He did go to a few of them and he improved on his defensive game a ton. This was going to be his break out year at WM, and his coaches were really excited about his improvement at the DE position this year. It really is unfortunate, Buy hay, my son was asked. if given a chance would he play football again, he said YES..

He is currently going through pre-op physical therapy at Advanced PT in Setauket, on Bell Mead Rd. and his surgery is scheduled for this coming Tuesday with DR. Penna. Let's see how it goes with Advanced PT post surgery. If he doesn't like them or if his improvement is not going as planned, we'll check out Noth Island.

Eh, we'll see how they look tomorrow with the red helmet and pants, but I didn't really like the look of the blue jersey last year. I thought I would, but I just didn't. Black has been played out to death by every team for years, so I think a dark gray alternate like they've got at Washington State would be pretty cool for us.

Just saw an interesting story in Newsday on-line LIU Post is going to merge all of their athletic programs with the Brooklyn campus and begin move up to DI including football which will play in the FCS starting in 2019. The football stadium will be upgraded however the one stumbling block will be if the town ordinance will be lifted to allow them to play night games.

This could effect SBU with recruiting because they have programs such as teaching and athletic training which SBU doesn't have
